Good idea ... anything that puts clans on a more official and less ad-hoc basis has to be a good thing. I had an idea similar to this a while ago ( http://www.funkysnooker.com/thread/5318/clans-a-suggestion) that went a bit further by incorporating clan matches as a game type but that had little support (probably because it involved changes to the site whereas this is procedural).

As iamtheworst said, to get things off the ground, getting support and commitment from clan members and leaders is a must.

One thing, is that right now we have a clan league and it is working properly, we have a fair few clans aswell which are also looking good.

Now i believe would be a great time to focus on how clans are run, rather than how the clan league operates!!

Its not about me running it or anyone else running it for that matter, its about everybody having a better guideline.

Maybe iamtheworst would like to draft up some basic rules for clans to follow.

If that is made sticky in the forum and everybody is happy then we can start right now trying to turn funkysnooker around and aimed in a much better direction.

Over on pool we started a clan we had 13 members, within one hour someone was on our forum telling us we must only have 12 also telling us what leagues we can join and when we can join the leagues.

I was very impressed with the efficiency on Pool.

Sorry to post so much i just feel so strongly and know there is a large majority of players who feel the same.

have you any suggestions yourself lee? you created the thread so im sure you must have had something in mind

I'll happily monitor that the rules are being followed, however I think the rules themselves would be better coming from the people involved with clans alot more than I am. You all know what you want, you don't need me to come up with some rules.

The first thing I'd personally look at is clan size..

is 20 good?? lol

maybe there could be a difference made between the clan, and the clan's team?
so like...you could have 20 clan members or whatever, but you'd need to make it clear what your team of 10 players is that you'd be using in matches/leagues etc.
and there could be a window for being able to swap players around within the clans.

but at start we give them 2 weeks to get the players out

am i reading this right? zach actually saying no second teams? lol! glad your finally seeing sense zach!

iv been saying about clan size for ages, but i think another thing that needs to be addressed and some captains are coming around to it aswell, no more 10 v 10 games. they are impossible to finish.
dgen had the right idea, brought from pool i think(?) of using 6 v 6.
the last few games i have organised i cut down the amount of players and they got finished pretty much

Zac, I think I'm right in saying that this isn't just for the league but for clans in general.

James, I don't like your idea. Using your example, you have ten players taking part in games and whatnot and another ten sitting there doing nothing.

Would you be able to release these players to make their own clan? This gives more clans to take part in matches and more clan to enter the league. I assume that this is the reason that people join clans, to actually play games and not just sit there doing nothing.

Edit: I was typing when Dec posted.. I like that idea. A clan of ten players but making games 6v6. Or, just a clan size of six? Or do people see that as too small?

i think 20 is too many personally if you were to say 14 players maximum in a clan its two more than pool and could be a good starting block, no one can complain with having 4 reserves.

Between us ALL we need some basic rules , then maybe we could do a petition thread , let it run for a few weeks and if majority vote is happy with them then we can go live with the rules.

I would suggest

maximum limit on clan players ( 12 - 15 set up a thread and have open vote first )

if a player joins a clan he / she would not be able to sign for another clan for a minimum of say 3 weeks ( we could also have a thread to vote on this 2, 3 or 4 weeks ), i believe this rule would see players be alot more committed, its harsh but its also fair. There are players that go from clan to clan for absolutly no reason, no names but the other day i was asked to let a guy join hustlers, he said nothing was happening in his clan, i looked and he had joined them the day before, now lets be honest what a waste of time for me and the other captain. If the person in question is reading this , no offence is meant its just a very good example of things that are not helping the clans run.

Also on the rules, players can request they want to join a clan on the clan thread and then captains MUST confirm there inclusion to there team with a printed team list, same if someone leaves.

12 players seems to work fine on pool, with 15-20 players it would mean that some players only play 1 game a season and some might not even play at all. I'd go with 12 or 13, seems reasonable

yes 12-14 is a good maximum.
also agree about the 2-3week waiting period after leaving a clan. but that might be harsh on people who leave due to an argument etc, overall wouldnt mind that.

on pool i do believe you cant petition a clan to join, you must be asked to join?

edit:
forgot to reply to dave about having 6 in a clan, dont think thats really possible, that would rely on all 6 always being active and thats just not possible. players often have to take breaks for certain periods of time for whatever reason so i think 10-14 players is optimum

Also i think it might be a good idea for players that have a lot of defaults given against them. If a player has 2 defaults that go against them then they should have like a 2 game ban??

3. If you leave one clan cant join a other clan for 2 weeks
4. Update teams if anyone leaves or joins
5. 2 point fine for every player that is over the maximum limt

if we had rule number 1 then rule number 5 is not needed.

the rest look good in my opinion

We should open up some threads once discussion is complete if the go ahead is given.....

1. How many players maximum in a clan? 12/13/14

2. How many weeks must a player wait before joining another clan? 2/3/4


They are the two big issues which need a vote.

These threads should be open for at least 1 month to account for all players getting chance to vote!!
