I don't know how others feel, but when someone says "gg" when you are playing them, I see that as them saying they thinkt he game is over and will flag if you give them a shot...

I recently had a game where i was 29 points ahead with 22 points left on the table. My opponent said "gg gtg" so i just hit the white anywhere so that they could flag. The white ended up in a position snookering me on the brown. He made me play again and i missed then he cleared up.

Now is he is the wrong doing this or am I wrong about the whole "gg" thing?

thanks

personally, i never say gg before i'm willing to flag. i thought this was how it was generally. I wasn't put off, i just assumed he would flag and we could save some time

Its not that I care about losing, i'm just amazed that people care this much about winning so that they will play on in these circumstances

gg doesn't mean the game is over though, it means good game, which it could be up till that stage in the game. It's just the perception of how it's used on here.

Definitely agree with that - I will never say 'gg' until the game is either well and truly out of reach, or the black has gone in.

But in your case, I would have made sure it had touched a red, or the colour you were going for or whatever.

Chances are if you didnt end up snookering yourself he would have conceded.

its all a personal thing. If i was in his situation, which i have been before, I would have missed since i had said 'gg' and I knew you missed so i could concede.

I always follow through with what i have said purely out of decency.
Same in a tournament, if i know im going to have to go afterwards, i might say that i do have to leave and even if i am winning a frame and can easily clear up to win, il miss.

Doesn't matter if you would have said it or not or if you think it's wrong. The perception of what "gg" means is that they are conceding, which is just simply doesn't. Once you learn that not to take it for granted they are giving in, then this problem will never arise

im completely with g_echo_l and chase here. i think it can be commonly accepted that "gg" is said at the end of a frame. i have personally never seen it used in another context.
there should be no reason to use gg during the frame other than to put someone off. i find ethics important and think it's a shocking move. i never say "gg" before i know i will concede no matter what happens on the next shot.

having said that, i always make sure to leave myself a winning position if someone says gg. but i dont think it's acceptable to say gg in the middle of a frame without conceding afterwards.
When someone does that to me (which has happened), i take the loss, leave the table, and put the guy on ignore. not playing them again

End of the day it's your fault if you let 2 letters affect your gameplay. You have to take it as it means. Gg means good game. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing to suggest it means the end of a game.

How can you know if it's a "good game" until it's over though?
