Its literal meaning yes is "good game". We all know that and thanks for pointing it out 3 times to us
In terms of funkysnooker it has implications that the person saying it thinks the game is over. Whether or not they do concede afterwards is irrelevant.

This is a really strange topic, which crops up now and then when people have similar experiences.
I don;t know how or where it came from, but as you can see here there are quite a few members who have come to associate "gg" with the end of a frame, and I also see "wp" getting the same kind of odd stigma.
As eemad has already said, you have to remember what it means. "gg" is a perfectly acceptable thing to say after, or during, a good rally or tactical battle. After all it might go downhill from there into a total mess!
Likewise, I will often say "wp" after someone makes a good safety escape or has a good break.
So, great advice above - whatever you personally want to associate with the abbreviations, remember everyone isn't the same and take nothing for granted other than what they mean.

Nah he didn't. The way I understand "gg" is as meaning that was a good game. So it doesn't make sense (to me at least) to say "gg" during a frame as you obviously don't know if it will be a good game in it's entirety.
Also I'm pretty sure that the majority of the time someone says it during a frame is to intentionally distract or mislead the opponent... which in any case isn't particularly sportsmanly.

There is when they say, gg gtg,
Ok if it was gg, then yes then you have a point. but gtg, then because the other person understands they have given up they play on?
Spinner's answer was perfect.
But its still bad sportsmanship if you say gg wp to gain an advantage..

Yeah good point. There's no excuse for that.

Gain an advantage? It's your fault if you let a couple of letters affect your game, it really shouldn't when your on the table.
gtg means they have to go, doesn't mean they are going to go straight away, so nothing wrong with gg g2g.

Whether it actually affects your game or not isn't important. It's all about the intention.

I know what your saying yeah, but you know that im talking about people saying it to in turn have the other player to miss or leave nothing on so they can carry on and get snookers, after basically conceding the game.
I know you'll say they haven't actually conceded the game, but you know what im talking about when someone says that they do mean i give up. I would say 95% of people on this site say gg wp as an unnoficial concesion of a game.

i disagree. "gg" has in my experience never been used during a frame. it is commonly used after the frame, not only on this website but on many others as well. if you play poker you'll know what im talking about.
i think it's an attempt to put the other player off, just like spamming the chatbox etc.
having said that, it's still your fault if you end up losing the frame. doesnt change the fact however, that it's very unsportsmanlike

End of the day it's your fault if you let 2 letters affect your gameplay. You have to take it as it means. Gg means good game. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing to suggest it means the end of a game.

As I've said, you have to play like they haven't conceded and just ignore it. Nothing more can be said on this matter. Nothing wrong with saying it, it's just peoples perception is wrong when they say "gg"

i agree with your first point. you cant let it affect you.
but i disagree that theres nothing wrong saying it. context matters

Its not the fact they say it before the game is over, its their intention as james said.
I came across a player a while ago, not sure of his name, but he said gg wp and he needed a couple of snookers if i had missed.
So i missed and fouled, and thought crap! hes going to go for snookers, and i gave it the usuall damn that is pure crap and what not, but he said, "no i said gg wp, you win ill flag".
The only time thats happened to me ever.

The problem is you don't know what their intention is, even though it is more often than not a ploy to put you off or not bother carrying on. Either way, damee and spins are correct .. just ignore it as you can't take it as a positive indication that the match is over.

Blaaaaaaaah... yeah obviously you can never know know what someone's intention is. But I think that most of the time, in these circumstances at least, it's safe to assume.
I agree that they're correct on the "ignore it" point. But that's completely separate from it being sportsmanly in the first place.
Also, what other reason is there to say "gg" during a game?

The fact that it will make you respond to it...making you lose concentration....in a hope to make you lose. That's basically it :L
