Ok, time to put you all out of your misery ....
Firstly, I'd like to congratulate Moons and Matt for getting the right answer but unfortunately neither of you gave the correct reasoning
(I was so tempted just to give it to you but had to be fair to others)
The key part that everybody missed is that I'm a member so I will always add the secret number when saying a number so....
The secret number is 2
There are 8 members (to which I added 2)
The last person said 24 (to which I added 2 whilst telling the story)
Hope you all enjoyed the puzzle (I did when I first heard it and, if it's any consolation, I went down exactly the same paths as you did before I got it)
Hope you all can sleep soundly now

Lol - unfortunately I've had to resign from the society for giving its secret number away
I do have a couple of logic problems (one very easy and one a bit trickier) and a couple of maths problems (again one very easy and one a bit trickier) that I can think of off the top of my head.

You had me well and truly stumped with the society riddle...
but I fear this is more to my liking lol
The diameter of the drill wasn't defined, so methinks nothing was actually removed....
Hence the voume remaining is ths original volume.

Buddy i just did the maths and try it with 2 members and secret number 8...
you added 8 to 2 when you posted hence the 10 members.
you also get 2+8+8 shouted out by the last member which is 18. you then added 8 to that when you posted to get the 26!
Boom.
This works because the solution is a quadratic equation with roots at x=2 and x=8 lol.
Unsure on your next one with no diameter of the hole though.
