As I happen to know a good site for solving crossword puzzles, etc.,
I can tell you there are 51 words that are 12 letters long, 10 with 16 and if you are interested .. 1 with 24 letters!

Bringing on to the new page (and editing slightly to replace sundial with stopwatch ... see above)...

Back in the days before electricity, Jim lived on his own in an isolated cottage in the country. He woke up one day to find that he had forgotten to wind up his large grandfather clock the day before. Because of this oversight, it had now stopped and, since he had no other means of telling the time, he had no idea what time it was.
He remembered that someone had told him that there was a village a few miles away that had a clock in the square. He wasn't sure how far away it was but he didn't think that it was too far. Being a nice day, he decided he would walk to the village and see what time it was.
As he walked along, enjoying the sunshine, he wished he had bothered to learn how to tell time by the position of the sun or perhaps invested in the purchase of a stopwatch.
When Jim got to the village square, he checked the clock and because it was a long walk, he rested for a while on a bench under the clock tower. As it was warm and peaceful, he fell asleep and, an hour or two later, he was awakened by a duck quacking in a pond on the other side of the square. "Oh, it is getting late, I'd better get home," he said to himself and set off for his cottage.
On arriving home (well before sunset thank goodness) he went straight to his clock and set the correct time.
How did he know what time to set?

Here is a quickie ....
After the poisoning in boyler_lfc's puzzle, the police bring in the barman who poured the drinks, the glass collector who had refilled the ice bucket and the waiter that had brought the drinks to the table for questioning (being the only ones that had an opportunity to spike the ice).
With all of them in the room, the detective proceeds to ask each of them if they were responsible. "I am innocent!" exclaims the barman. The glass collector speaks so quietly, that the detective can't hear what he says so he asks him to repeat it. Again, the reply can't be heard by the detective but the waiter (who is sitting next to the glass collect and can hear what he said) pipes in by saying "He said he was innocent - he is and so am I!"
The detective, having had a reliable tip off that the assassin is in fact the notorious 'The Deceiver' who is well known as a pathological liar and has managed to lie his way into the club that prides itself on the absolute integrity and honesty of its staff, immediately makes an arrest.
Who was arrested and why?

As it has been a couple of days since I asked the one about Jim and his clock (and it is a pain bringing it on to new pages), here is a hint for anybody who wants it .....
The solution has more to do with something he did (which you have to deduce) rather than something he might have(i.e. you are not trying to find anything that isn't given in the puzzle)
