If you are using Opera, try using opera turbo. That fixed the lag for me. Or just try another browser.

i would but Opera sometimes comes up with IP Block so can't log in due to being banned when i wasn't.

because nick loses money, having ads on the site earns nick some money so having premium counteracts this

Oh right. Tbh when I play as guest and ads are there I don't even notice them couldn't even tell u wot ads are even there.if u use opera use the window zoom scroll button it makes the ad so tiny u can't see it. So don't remove them but too small too see. Just tried that..

Anyone got any suggestions for me. For about the last month, every shot I hit i push the cue through (ie push the mouse up) and just as it hits the cue ball, it freezes for a moment, then the cue ball goes off. The result is that my power is rather random, and quite often it lags, ie goes about a centimetre down the table. I can assure you that as I tend to play carom, this isn't just me underhitting a gentle shot, these are shots hit full power. Full power comes off either full or none, but mid power can be pretty much anything.

While this does make positional play rather interesting, I kinda preferred playing when I had some control over where the ball was going to go!

Tied in with this is that it very often does a sort of dummy shot, I shoot as normal but it doesn't hit the ball. Normally takes me 4 or 5 attempts to actually play the shot when this happens.

But yeah, any genii out there who have any suggestions, please yell! If you want some context to go on, it seems to have started with the introduction of the latest (as far as i know) java update... and for the record, I don't believe in coincidences! I'm familiar with the law of truly large numbers...

I haven't been prompted for a java update for at least a month, so I won't be doing that lol.
Other than that, close all other tabs/skype/programs, but I'm guessing you've already done that.

If you run firefox, maybe try deleting the "plugin container". That was slowing my connection down at one point. google it.

@Adam

That usually happens to me when my computers lagged up. Have you tried closing all unnecessary processes on your computer, running a virus scan, cleaning out temp files, and defragging the hard drive? I can only go by personal experience, but when ever I've had lag like that, cleaning out my comp so that it runs a bit smoother always helped.

The most likely cause I think is when there are other processes running in the background. When this happens, although the game might look like it's not playing smoothly, it's usually the browser itself, and obviously depending on what the problem might be, the browser can either totally freeze up until the "hidden process" is finished, or it can try and chug along through, making shots difficult to play, if that makes any sense.

Just think of it like a sink. If the sink is all clogged up, water won't be able to go down it. Get rid of the bits clogging it, and the water will flow without problem.

@seb. Just realised i left Skype running. Have turned it off in the past with no effect though.

@jack. When i go on task manager and processes I see a whole list of stuff I have no idea what does. Most of if takes up 0 CPU though. Is there any truth that if you have a program on your desktop, then on bootup that program is loaded? If so I have 1 reasonably big package and one huge one on my desktop. If not, then that's irrelevant. I'll try another virus scan next time I'm going out for a while. I use sophos which is thorough if painfully slow.

What does it do though? Normally deleting things has consequences .

Maybe a complete system restore as there may be a virus hindering you?

plugin container came with a fairly recent update of firefox.
It runs the plugins from websites separately, so when a plugin crashes, only this .exe crashes, not all of firefox. But it eats a lot of bandwidth (at least it did for me). There a moderately easy process to get rid of it permanently.
I did and since I don't have much trouble with plugins, it hasn't hindered me.

If I have a virus mr Sophos will find it I'm pretty sure. From what I've read its about the best available. And I get it free from uni, how nice!
