Well if it wasn't playable then the people who complain about the lag wouldn't keep comin on and playing games everyday, simple as that really.

Maybe there are other free snooker sites out there what run perfectly smooth, who knows.

I don't know what you have on your PC/Laptop woody but
about month ago everything was going slow on here for me, I would click play and have to wait 40 seconds for it to start normally gettin lots of random shot penelties and always aimed stuff up but kept freezing i did a bit moaning like lol.

So i decided to ask for advice on factory settings and that, and jack_pot gave advice like, I just use my laptop for internet really nothing more, So i just wiped everything off with factory settings and my laptop is about 3 year old and its like a brand new laptop for speed and that.

I got java advice on here to which one is best and just got firefox like, Everything is fine now no lag no freezing or out.

So basicilly after my long post, I don't know what you use your PC/Laptop for but there is nowt on it give factory settings a go.

Everyone i chat to in game who has a premium account says its worth it, But everyone who uses the forum who has one thinks they are a waste of money.

A handful of people in 1000's of users is very little people complaining. It's not a site issue as I've said, your computer can't handle it. Yes the ads can be removed but when 99% of users have no issues, then it's clear it's not the site.

honestly damee. is it me watching the ads what brings the money? even if i switch it off i would never pay attention to the ads. and although i use it the placeholders for the ads are still existing and limit my 45" screen terribly! lol

even so, ads make money for nick so he won't take too kindly to people giving advice how to stop it etc. nick needs to make money from the site to provide us with updates etc.

its your choice if you want premium or cope with ads.

As for Fuunky saying im the only one, well, im not the only one, but I am one who will voice the things wrong so something gets done. And on a side issue, so you say I cant complain for something thats free... so does being a Premium member stop the server going down? well. I would say placing the ads at the site brings the money! if i would click them and follow the link they were more successful but i dont do anyway! so where is the problem?

No doubt you are all arguing about this thread, I dont even need to read comments, its simple.

If a few members are getting lag, then its a problem.

What do you do with problems? Fix them.

Things like this can often evolve and then its a bigger problem. I have had lag on this site for ages, I could use a Poker site, download of Limewire and have Itunes playing and play this site.

Now I cant even have music on whilst playing, how sad is that?

Its obvious that tools of any job make life a lot easier. If I have a bigger TV, I can play COD better, If I have a laser mouse it will be easier to take a shot that a rollerball mouse, if I have a sharp knife it will cut better than a blunt one....

So when people on this site strive for perfection or achievments, who is to say lag isnt important. Numerous occasions I have been robbed by lag like so many others.

Lag is worse than racism in my eyes, so if we are eliminating racism, surely we can irradicate lag on a snooker site.

In the last month or so, lag has made the game unplayable for me also. Don't just say "Get premium..." etc. I shouldn't have to, this is a free game which was perfectly playable until about a month or two ago for me.

My PC is of relatively decent spec and my internet is not slow at all seeing as I have often had 3 laptops and 2 Xbox 360s all using the internet at the same time.

Just because most people aren't having this issue, it doesn't mean it isn't a problem. So stop being so ignorant and make a useful comment for once. This IS a problem, and problems need fixing.

I think what this thread is showing so far is that it's very hard to nail down the cause of the problem. Some say that its adverts... ok maybe, but I lagged badly 4 times in 15 frames of a clan match on pool and I'm a premium member there. I had no other windows open (as getting a message on Facebook chat inevitably causes lag) so there is something else causing it.

What I'm saying is, the problem cannot be fixed until the cause(s) are identified clearly. People need to take note of everything that has happened when they get lag and try and find some sort of pattern. You can't expect Nick to guess the cause and fix it, so do everything you can to help him instead of moaning about it on a forum!

All those saying its adverts, find out which ones. When the war2glory one was causing the problem people named which ad it was. I havnt seen anyone saying which adverts cause the lag...

Yes, but i think the title needs renaming, m wood plays a lot of games and wins a lot of tournies, this would not be possible if the game was unplayable. I'm still finding it hard to understand why people keep logging in and playing games and then moaning that the game is unplayable. It would make sense to look for another snooker site or find something else to do, I cant see any ad's being removed anytime soon anyway!

Firstly, ads that are proven to cause lag do get removed. It doesn't happen very often but sometimes vendors (the ads are not chosen by the site remember) submit ads which break the flash guidelines and place excessive load on computers, usually excessive use of animated transparancies.

However, those incidents are rare and are usually announced here.

No for the main part. I became fascinated by lag a few years back when I upgraded my computer then found the site was unplayable due to extreme lag. Sometimes I never saw the balls move at all.

Obviously it was something to do with my setup as the old computer still worked fine. Even now, funkysnooker is EXTREMELY light to run. A 500Mhz pentium with a 1meg GFX card can easily run it.

So, this is the bit some people don't like - lag is a personal thing. Its an issue with YOUR setup. That doesnt mean we wont help you to fix it if we can, but realising that is vital.

We *could* make it a site issue and garantee no lag watsomever, but the only way to do that would be to specifiy exactly which hardware and software have to have to be able to play, but that wouldn't be very popular (not everyone wants to be an Apple user!)

In my case it turned out to be a conflict between my graphics card drivers and the version of Java which was current at that time. This has been a recurring theme and having the latest GFX drivers and Java update is advisable, but even then not foolproof.

Another common issue is messaging programs. MSN messenger used to allow Java based animated smilies and effects, which of course led to multiple instances of Java running at once thus causing major lag.

There may be any number of tiny programs in the background causing problems, and eliminating them one at a time is the only solution. Even if you used to be able to play fine, that doesn't mean a background update hasn't changed something to cause a conflict.

Ironically, ad-blockers (not allowed as per the sites terms of Service) are often to blame, as people so often believe the hype that they can improve performance, a bit like "game booster" programs etc. The simple fact is that there is no way installing and running an additional program can do anything but slow performance, even if it is designed to make it look otherwise. Just stop and think about that for a minute, its simple common sense.

So, if you're having lag, start by removing everything you don't need from your startup folder. Use msconfig or ccleaner to remove other startup programs, you should have virtually nothing there but drivers and your antivirus.

Fire up the game and see how it is. If it is still lagging you almost certainly have a driver/java issue. Try rolling back to previous versions (remember to get them from www.java.com - 3rd party sites are worst of all for bloatware) always rememberig to reboot inbetween.

Then, when you're back running smoothly again, you can load other programs you want to run one by one and any which cause problems will be easy to spot.

So, thats lag, no conspiracies, not a site issue, individual and different to every user, solved by plain old common sense 99% of the time.

i only need antivirus, internet (flock atm, i have opera too), ccleaner (to clean cookies etc) and fireworks to do clan pictures.

i went back to java version 25, not had many problems since then.

Off Topic: how do you get rid of java update notice what keeps appearing? as i want to avoid the new java for now until its sorted.
