I've just lost all respect for that idiot Harry Redknapp....

07:21 Mon 9 Jan 12 (GMT) [Link] Agree with this.
They're showing the game on TV here again at the moment, so I just saw the tackle for the first time.
Under the current rules, if both of your feet leave the ground and you're going in studs first, it can result in a red card. Players know this and it's been like this for a couple of years now, so they should really not go in like that anymore.
When your whole body is flying through the air, you can't pull out of a challenge- that is the most important point. Meaning if you slightly misjudge your tackle, you break the player's leg. To avoid that, any such tackle is forbidden. It was the same as tackles from behind a 10 years ago. Even if you get the ball, if you come in from behind, you could get sent off since it's so dangerous.
It never seems right to send a player off when he hasn't caught the opponent, but the referee has to follow the rules right?

With these challanges though, you have to understand that they are pretty dangerous.
Players are physically stronger, bigger and heavier than they use to be. So instead of having a 10 stone centre back thrwoing himself at you, you have a 13 stone centreback doing so.
But the FA need to realise these players are getting a ton of money, they are fully aware of the dangers of playing... just like someone who joins the army.

It's a silly game football at times, ruined by money. It isn't the FA who have decided those tackles are red cards, it is the football clubs who have shelled out so much money to buy and keep their assets that they don't want to risk injury.
When that is a red card we might as well just pick the ball up, put it away and all go home and watch something worthwhile.

The other stupid thing is that the ref then feels that they may have been a bit harsh so try to even it out. It wasn't that long after the red card that he booked Welbeck for nudging a player when jostling for the ball. Someone needs to tell them that it's better just to admit you made the wrong call than trying to balance it out by making wrong calls the other way.
I'm still on the fence re. the red card. I think it was slightly harsh given he was very low, and on the soaking wet surface he will have slid in much faster than normal, however I can see why the ref gave it and had he caught Nani, it could have been a broken leg and it shouldnt take a serious injury to warrant a red card.
Not sure what the result of the appeal will be. There are grounds to reduce the red card to just a yellow but also grounds to enforce it. Hmm.

I doubt they'll rescind it. If they do, then refs will stop giving them, which is not what they want...

What we need is a red card, yellow card, and green card for when somebody does something good. So if a player scores a goal, they'll be given a green card by the ref. 5 green cards and they miss a game.

I suspect they will enforce it as well as a show of support for the ref.

Kompany has had his appeal turned down. Instead they have put another game on top of it for good measure, so he now misses 4 games!
Only 2 FA Decisions have been overturned in the last 12 months, both of which were for Man Utd.
When will clubs stand up to these jokers like Liverpool did?

He was banned for 4 games anyway wasn't he?
Misses both Carling Cup semis now
"The suspension consists of a statutory three-match suspension for serious foul play plus one additional game given this is Kompany's second dismissal of the season."

How the hell has that got anything to do with Rangers?
I'll explain for the hard of understanding
Was a Rangers player implacated in sending letterbombs? NO
Was a Liverpool player implacated in racism? YES

Just saying. Take your hilarious jokes elsewhere nobody wants to hear them.
And a Liverpool player was categorically not involved in racism he was charged 'on probability' if you actually became informed on what you comment on.

^ Do they? If you read the report, linguistic experts clearly say that if used as Luis claimed, it would not have been racist.
The experts concluded their observations on Mr Suarez's account as follows. If Mr Suarez used the word "negro" as described by Mr Suarez, this would not be interpreted as either offensive or offensive in racial terms in Uruguay and Spanish-speaking America more generally.
Anyway, I've read that joke 5 times now, and as I told the first fella who posted it on Facebook... we've brought back Bellamy.

The big question is- Will the Liverpool players wear shirts in support of the racist fan from the FA Cup game?

Wouldn't surprise me lol.

Jesus christ! Get a sense of humour!
At least I can laugh at all the jokes about Rangers throwing away a 15 point lead within a month, being knocked out 3 cups by lesser teams and the fact that the tax man is after us. It's just banter at the end of the day
