Until he mentioned pocketing the white instead of playing the black for a 107 and then basically suggesting he was the same level or even better than Destiny....

The cents and halfs speak volumes. Regardless of how many tournaments people have won or even their win ratio, its the Cent and half ratio that it boils down to.

I do not need to make 107 breaks or 147s, because It does not interest me.. I do enough to win and that is all. Nobody tells me what a good achievement is, I do. ...

Furthermore, maybe you need to re-read what I wrote as I certainly did not suggest that I was on the same level or better than Destiny.

I could say I have no interest in a 200 break in power... The truth of the matter is I'm not good enough at it to get one. Most people who say they have no interest in cents/147s is simply because they aren't good enough to get many (in the case of cents) or one (in the case of 147s). That's how it strikes me.

Generalising. People say win a Tournament you are good. You win the tournament. People say become Virt you are good. You become virt. People say become Rank 1 you are good. You become rank 1. .....

People say get a Max... infact I believe Adam you said it yourself in another thread, get maxes and you will be impressed.. well, no, you wouldnt, because then the retort would be get 10 maxes, get this, get that. Well none of this interests me at all im afraid.

As ive said time and time again... I play to win not play for breaks. Ive never played for breaks. Im quite happy to get a break of 20 and then nudge a red, because its more fun for me.

People talk about robots on this site... is that a fun game for the roboto or the opponent? In my opinion no.

As for derry.. so you win 80% of your games, yet in the 4 Snooker games, Arcade, Reg, Orig, Power.. ive been higher ranked than you in 3 of the 4. I prefer that thanks. Someone with a worse win ratio ranked higher....what a shame. And soon, ill have won More Tournaments than you. Watch your back....im coming for you

You misunderstand me, if you get an orig max I will be impressed. Personally winning a tournament, reaching virt or reaching rank 1 doesn't make you good in my opinion as all of them can be done by simply playing lots of games with worse players. If we just stick to original, most of the top players rarely if ever enter tournaments. You actually have to be a good player to hit a 147 in original as you cant get it by simply playing lots of weaker players.

If you want some evidence of why breaks make you a good player, see the thread for top 5 or top 10 original players of all time (i forget which it is) and see how many of the names regularly mentioned have no maxes...

I play mainly to enter tournaments. This is what I like to do.

Like you said, some people play to get breaks. I am not one of these people. I do not try to make 107s or 147s, I just want to win, nothing more.

Do you not enjoy a challenge though? Winning a game of anything on this is hardly difficult.

I make my own challenges Adam.... big breaks is not one of them.

Fair enough, each to their own.

Different players have different playing styles and when their at the table theres nothing you can do.

Personally, I prefer breaks, but when I played tournaments I would switch into 'Match play mode' and make sure I don't stupidly throw a silly game away by pushing the boat out.

This is ridiculously off topic now though.

m_wood has made valid points although some would argue his views are shared by a small percentage of the players on here. I'm not going to argue about the bigger picture but i'm interested to know why nudging a red is fun? Surely it just leads to stalemate and unproductive minutes wasted for either players lives that they will never get back?

What I meant was, I am quite happy to pot the stray reds, and if there is 1 red in the open, I can quite happily pot it, and a colour, and then roll into the reds, rather than play a shot to smash the reds apart as I like tactical battles and probably because the majority of games I play are Tournament games, as Mooney suggested, you go into Match Mode which is more defensive to preserve your progress through the tournament

Derry you cannot use your win ratio in this argument, when the majority of older players know you used to play 600 ranked players to achieve it (regardless whether you hit breaks against them there was never any real danger of losing, being a player of your caliber).

M_wood obviously does what he needs to win, we cannot judge him on that, although not caring is a little far fetched.

Winning is always the first target in snooker, but if a break comes along the way, then you take it.. i mean if im in a game and i pot a red and a black.. straight i think MAXIMUM, and just go for it.. my days in tournaments are done, breaks are all that matters now a days.. tournament wins dont prove your a good player, breaks do.. i mean if you have a set of maxes, your not going to be looked at as complete and utter poo are you ?

but when you see someone with 2000 odd games played, and highest break is 90 odd, with 100 tournament wins, i dont see them as a good player, breaks prove who is the best and who isn't.. centuries even.

Last point is a good one. I've hit 107s from the break against a 645 rank and against Destiny, it was no easier against the 645 rank...
