with regrads to your last post. you lose less points if you get beat by a newbie. they just gain alot lol. i do see your point m8 but i just dont think it will make the game any better, noone is gonna win every game they play, points will always be won and lost so does it really matter when and how it happens

didnt say them all - but when you go to play a game and all are 800+ to enter - you cant play them
in a tourney they have to play you
thats how you improve

Irrelevant, it happens all the time. Nothing wrong with constructive posts, which your posts are anyway!
Ranking points are directly related to tournaments these days anyway.

how about maybe having one ranking tounament per night for 800+ players??
that way those who dont like playng tourneys because of "newbies" can play against those of a closer level in every match

whats the point in rank now and even entering torns!!!
Bet my next torn will be a newbie and get hammered with a max because that newbie has played before. there goes 15 rank points. least before we knew who we were playing or know there stats, now we wont know a thing about a newbie which will mean they are good or rubbish, do we play a safer game or just smack the balls and hope the newbie cant pot f all lol

you wont lose that many points to a newbie m8. if your say 850 and newbie is 680 u wuld lose only 1.5 ish but they would gain maybe 8 or 9 lol

Well you don't know how the ranking system works. You'd lose at most 2 points due to newbie modification!

That is a good idea and something like this can still be added.
This would be good, but if you were to do this, I would suggest only enabling it for tournaments, as normal ranked games you can avoid playing newbies. I think this solution would satisfy everyone to be honest, as people who have reset aren't affecting other users rank as severely.
Agree, it would only be for tournament games. If that feature occurred in other games it would allow someone to easily donate points to a friend without loss. (Although this would be cheating and still could be caught it wouldn't be good idea to create such an exploitable hole unless there is a good reason.)
An accumulative score already exists with TournaPoints, ranking is a different measurement that can go up and down, similar to Elo ratings ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elo_rating_system ) or FIFA would rankings (although funkypool had this system before them!).

there was an idea by chris on pool about a ranking system where if you played a newbie you wouldn't gain/lose anything but the newbie would gain/lose then the newbie can lose tag faster while top players can enjoy tournaments without fake newbies.

i agree with awarding ranking points for playing in tournaments but not taking them away.
any other ranking event played in any sport / game in the world yo dont get minus points for losing.
in ordinary ranked games - yes - otherwise we would have 1,000,000 virts but in tourneys - no
that means its only ranking points awarded for winning tournaments - OMG - doesnt that happen everywhere!!!!

i think the way it was, was fine, now you can join a torn as a newbie, win that torn then your professional within 1 torn.
Think its a joke. say some newbie got lucky in an arcade torn and won it, then they are adept, or if they enter the marathon then they can get more points and end up professional at the end of it. lol.
Does one torn and winning mean they should be professional at the end of it, say not even playing a game before they had joined that tournament.
This gives newcomers an advantage of playing in torns now and gives the higher ranked players nothing and there the ones who are always on the site playing the game. why do we want dodgy noobs in our tournaments.
do one noobs lol

I am trying to calculate your max loss as a 900 losing to a newbie ranked on average 675, however I have noticed some things on the help section on the ranking system...
1. Some of the information is incorrect. It says that a player ranked 100 points higher is expected to win 75% of the games, and if they play someone 100 points lower in 4 games and win 3 then their ranking will stay the same. This is not true. The order of the results will affect their final score, meaning they could finish higher or lower. Over 4 games the change would be no more than a couple of points, but extrapolate over say 20 games and it could be in the region of 10 points. I experienced this myself playing carom. I was ranked 2 points lower than my opponent when we started, the session finished 3-3 and I lost 1 point on where we started, he gained 1 point. This was because I got to 3-1 up, then he won 2 and because by that point I was higher, he got more for the wins.
2. The formula for calculating newbie modification is a little unclear. Am I applying standard BODMAS to it with regards to the +0.9 at the end, or is that added to the denominator? You can never have too many brackets. Also, what is "newbiegames", is this 30 (the number taken to lose newbie in a game type) or 50 (the number it says it takes to lose newbie on the help page).
If someone can clarify point 2, I'll number crunch some example results for you as they are rather basic formulae.

i think getting to professional on a game when a newbie can now join a torn and get a massive amount of points from a single game is silly, why should newcomers join and get to professional straight away if they have a lucky run in a tournament say a ''marathon tournament''
Shouldn't you think about why is it so easy to get to professional even like me i wouldn't say i was a professional at the game but have the tag as one.
Perharps when you reach 850 then you should be a exploded professional instead with a gold star or something lol

Yeah they have gone, really confusing!
Point 2 - It applies to the 30 ranked games required to lose newbie.

Then the help page should say 30 not 50? And do you know about my mysterious +0.9 that is wandering around at the end?
Oh and the underlines have vanished from the thread titles too. Was this deliberate Nick?
