Help page does need updating, as you need to play 30 ranked games to lose newbie tag.

Good questions, adam_147.

1. Yes, you're totally correct that order of results will affect the final score. Maybe it would be best rewritten as probability rather than results: 75% of 0.5 = 25% of 1.5.

2. BODMAS is used correctly, but the newbie games for snooker is 30. I will add the brackets (I've seen the Facebook question regarding that) and correct the number for next patch.

Cheers Nick, what about the vanishing underlines though?

Accidental. I was altering the site layout to remove the underlines from the single tournament page. (Round 1 etc was underlined erroneously.)

Ah right. Can we get them back as it looks a bit odd without them?

Apologies, just checked further - the formula on the newbie reduction was incorrect.

It is:
(e(sqrt(rankedgames)) / (e(sqrt(newbiegames)) / 0.9)) + 0.1

I'll update the help page next version.

Might be a bit easier to use if you re-arrange it a bit to:

0.9 ( exp(sqrt(ranked games) - sqrt(newbiegames))) + 0.1

no need to have two exponentials in there as I think that one of mine is less calculations .

Just did a rough calculation as an example:

Player A rank 900 loses to Player B rank 675 (newbie), who has for simplicity played half of his games as a newbie (15/30) in an arcade tournament.

Player A loses 2.51 points
Player B gains 8.95 points

I think that's right anyway haha.

i dunno lol, the guys on my course at uni have the theory that if they get the same answer as me then it must be wrong. i have a reputation for making careless calculation errors... I dropped 6 marks in an exam last year for doing 2x3=8, and who knows how many marks for differentiating sin(x) as sin(x), then integrating it to -cos(x) and carrying it through 2 sides of working... oops.

I like the % system, but definitely not the newbies change.

I'll mostly stick to ranked games from now on. Can't see how the change is a good thing for the ranking system overall.

^^?????

Wait, wait, ive seen so many posts like this from you......

Explain yourself? If you like his post, all it takes is 20 seconds to type " i agree, well said Sebastian"

You really that lazy pal? Coz it looks to me like your spamming

Do you even know what spamming is???

Can't see what your problem is. It's not like he's doing anything wrong is it, I'd say "txt speech" is lazy as well...

Bringing up an old thread to say exactly nothing, nothing at all, just a smiley??

You think thats ok?

Hardly ever used more than one word and when he does only talks, like you said, in txt speech?

Yeh of course, nothing wrong with that at all

Yeah sorry my mistake. I didn't notice the thread was a month old..doh

Nothing wrong with using a smily face tho if you like something, theres one person that does it quite often and nothing is ever said to them. If he posted it multiple times then that is spamming, no need to bring a thread back up tho just to post a smiley face i agree with that.

true, if you mean me by the way a smiley face is another way of saying "bump", i would prefer an old thread being revived than a new one being made

while on the subject of tournaments, i remember speaking to a moderator a while ago about the schedule and he said an admin would look into it, has this been done?

what would be good is make:

00: marathon, normal
30: speed, micro

with a number of different types.

well mate, posting

"" on an old thread is annoying mate, almost spam like,

you could have said something, anything...

Its not like you had something to say about the thread either, you didnt say anything, so i ask you now, what was it for?
