This needs amending somehow.
Its happened a few times against me during my time on here. Playing an opponenet, they are trying to think of a shot or whatever, and their Time Runs out, so the Random Time Shot Penalty comes into play.. the white ball moves automatially and Pots a Ball for them!!!! So they stay on break and therefore gain an unfair advantage.
Merci Beaucoup.

Would you like to suggest an alternative that would be completely fair?

So the game works out where a foul ball is, aims at it and hits it? What if no foul ball is hittable? And what if the path to every pocket is blocked?

I've seen some pretty impressive carom shots made by randoms before. Although with some players its hard to tell the difference between that and their normal shots .

Yes.
Like in Power Snooker. The White Ball Remains Still. With the option to return the shot back. Sorted. Afterall Funky Snooker follows snooker rules, id love to see Timed Shots at the Crucible, Ebdon takes 20 seconds too long so the ref pulls out a golf club and smashes the white ball around the table lol
Btw Jack.. I have actually been known to hand the play over to opponenets in unexpected circumstances, I am quite a Fair Player. And its not moaning, its to improve play and A foul shot which results in an advatage to the fouler shouldnt be included.

04:11 Mon 21 May 12 (BST) [Link] Outrageous claim lol.
But yeah, random shots need to go. Do exactly what wood suggested. No one should get to continue their break after not taking a shot.
But I can guarantee there's at least one admin who thinks otherwise (had about 20 pages of pool argument with him over this- long time ago)

That's because in power snooker there is a proper ruling for time fouls. The only equivalent in snooker would be the rules used in the premier league snooker, and if we were to use them and tried to stick as close to the rules as possible, then extensions should also be introduced to be completely fair.
The current system also stops a player effectively running the clock down in a timed match (ie tournaments) by having a huge element of risk in it.

I don't see random shots anywhere in the snooker rules!
Giving the shot to the opponent with option seems like a fair punishment for failing to take your shot.

i think a random shot would be better if the ball did not move and stayed exactly where it was and the player just get 4 points deduction
But once a random is done then the next shot has to be taken within 5 secs then another 4 points and 5 secs again then default win

Might as well throw in the obvious as a few will be expecting me to
If someone does not take their shot within the time limit it is not a foul, as it is not a snooker rule. It is a site rule to keep the game moving.
Even if the random shot pots a legal ball, it is still a penalty as the player did not get to take the shot they wanted. I think it should be obvious to all that the chances of a random shot being precisely and exactly the same as the shot they intend to play are very slim.
If not, why not just let the random shot generator play all your shots
Finally, out of the thousands of times per day it happens, there is only one complaint about it every year or so on the forums, and ALWAYS by someone who feels hard done by.
Coincidence?

In fairness then, the site rule should change. The Time Clock is there for a reason, for players to take their shot, so if they dont take their shot within the time frame the ball should be passed over without the white ball being clobbered about.

Again, in fairness, the chances sure are slim, but the chances should be zero. And if I am snookered, and im thinking jeez how do I get out of this spot, and then my time limit clock hits zero, suddenly my white ball blasts off 9 cushions and gets me out of the snooker. Or pots a ball.

One complaint per year? Have you seen the replys to this? The Game in which it happened against me yesterday I was 40 behind anyway, I didnt feel hard done by at all, but it is a game glitch that needed raising and needs changing because as it stands, in some games, the fouler gets a reprieve.

1 more thing. If this is the case, why do we not have a Randon Shot in Power Snooker? May as well whack the white around for that too right?

i think you should get a 4 point penalty and shot is passed to opponent (like real snooker), if this happens 3 times in a row you lose the frame (like it is now).
its simple as in the real game you don't get a referee smacking balls about when timer has ran out.
regarding the penalty thing, if im snookered, im thinking of a way out and it goes off 5 cushions and hit the ball its not a penalty to me but an undeserved fluke which i don't like fluking anyway.
not moaning but putting my point across

Because it *IS* a rule in Power Snooker.
Introducing extra, completely irrelevant rules like not taking a shot in x seconds = a foul into other games would be fundamentally changing their rules and is a serious line to cross.
The fact is, the shot is totally random, and therefore, totally fair.
I have often said, there is a simple cure to this occasional complaint - remove the random shot announcement, then nobody knows, therefore nobody decides to be annoyed by it.

forget top line as in real game you have unlimited time to take shot but i still feel the point stands and an award of 4 points and a pass to opponent is better and more realistic than a random shot
