Fluking is not the issue. Having the computer pot for you is the issue!

Having the computer pot for you has nothing to do with snooker, because you never took a shot.

Exactly! Don't let them interfere in the game!

There would be no game without computers

I have lost all interest in this argument. I completely and utterly disagree with your point of view. And you with mine. I am tired of going around in circles, so I am not going to continue in this thread.

Potting by random shot is still a fluke though.

A fluke = a lucky shot. A shot requires that someone actually takes the action to shoot.
So no, a computer randoming the ball in for you is not the same as a normal fluke in snooker.

I couldnt not reply to that.

Yes, a shot requires somebody to take an action to shoot. Since the person did not shoot in the alloted time, the computer took the shot for them.

So yes, a computer randoming the ball in for you is the same as a normal fluke in snooker. For whatever reason the person was unable to take the shot, the computer took a shot on their behalf and the game moves on. The shot the computer took could have been the exact shot the person was going to take. You will never know.

Actually as I type this I am even more in favour of the random shot than I was previously. Its the perfect solution. Since there is no time rule in snooker, it takes a shot on their behalf which is the only way apart from a foul or miss that play can switch over to the opponent. The time limit is only in funkysnooker because its an online game.

And for the amount of occurences, it really is a completely pointless thread. You said yourself its at least 6 months since it happened to you.

You must really hate power snooker then, considering the system is rightly in place there?

The fundamental difference between normal snooker rules and funky is the timer! So we should be comparing it to real snooker games that have a timer- premier league/snooker shootout/power snooker.

I prefer when the players take the shots, rather than the computer. Would suck if in Premier League snooker, ronnie times out on his shot and the referee grabs his cue and smashes the white around.

Power snooker is a gimic. I dont hate it. I dont particularly like it. No feelings toward it actually. However, its format is ideally suitable for introduction to an online gaming site.

Ok,

I have just played a match, against a player ranked some 70 points lower than myself, where the clock has twice elapsed, yet the "random shot" has TWICE potted the ball for him, once on a red and once on a pink (which he was seemingly aiming at!) Hence, I lost..

My attitude has now changed...

Edit: The player was actually ranked 100 points lower, so I lost -3.8 points

3.8 isn't too bad, in orig you would have lost around 6 or 7, unlucky on the randoms too

Plus, using the argument of "letting the computer take the shots" is just stupid. Come on, its highly unlikely a ball is potted after the clock has elapsed and you know it! If it did happen all the time I would be angry also, but the fact is it just doesn't. Your not stupid enough to let that happen anyway. It just sounds to me, from the way you are writing, that you feel overly cheesed off that it has happened to yourselves.

Hmmm... twice in the same game you say?

I'm not sure what you are trying to say, are you suggesting the random shots aren't random? Because they aren't, a computer can't do random. But they are a fairly good pseudo-random generator as far as i know .

Cool. This would all be irrelevant if the pass shot button came up after 'random' shots.

You never did respond about that very strange comparison between the random shot clock and potting a red off the break m_wood...

Errrm it is likely to happen. How many times does somebody smash a break in arcade and a red goes in? Its the exact same thing.

What are you on about? lol

You were talking about how unlikely it is for a red to go in from a random smash... and I was making the comparison that a smash break is the same kind of principle.. it is a random smash(yes towards the back but same lines) where a ball can go in.

Glad to see you have now been converted

The red going in off the break in arcade is anything but random, there is no random element that affects where the balls go after you hit them, it's simple (and slightly incorrect) physics.

The point being, it is a smash at balls and 1 can go in... just like a Random Shot Penalty.
