they would only be put into use if nick liked the idea and implented it into funkysnooker/pool. but also it would be seen to get peoples opinions

If polls were added, would the results be put into use or would the polls just be there to see peoples opinion on the matter?

It states in the rules that people who are banned is between them and the staff, it should stay that way because some people might be emabarresed or ashamed of why they were banned, and wouldn't want anyone to know about, respect people privacy i say!

I like the idea of a poll its just weather it would be effective of not. People with more than one account could vote more than once so it might not give any clearer opinion. On the other hand it could save a lot of hasstle on the forums.
I agree with you there luckypot

but you would need many accounts to have a massive impact on the poll, if loads of people vote on the poll then someone with multiple accounts wont make a massive effect in the readings

What happened to every vote counts? I just don't think it would be very fair if someone is voting more than once and getting an advantage over the honest people who vote once.

lol Spinner don't make me kick your booty back to pool, quit making our users upset gawsh.
The final point is that a lot of people don't want it, and a few do want it. At the end of the day i don't feel its a big enough majority for listing ban reasons to change the current system.

good point but how about this;
somewhere there is a list of bannings without mentioning names but saying like how many people have been banned for abuse, swearing etc. eg
banning
24 people have been banned for constant swearing
56 people have been banned for abuse
13 people have been banned for spamming

The reason polls have been vetoed in the past is because they are not as effective as this, a forum where various ideas can be discussed and views aired.
The fact is that it may only take one user making a very valid point which would lead to an idea being implimented, despite the majority of users thinking differently.
However, back to the topic
As i initially said, the "privacy" issue is a totally moot point. The user is banned, so no longer on the site, and no personal information is revealed. Regarding the current t&c remember this is a discussion of improving those.
As i said, displaying the banning reason is actually fairer on the banned user as they cannot fall victim to rumours etc.
Lets see if anyone can answer how it can be fair for booting reasons to be displayed, but not banning reasons?
no-one has ever complained about the reasons for bootings being displayed have they?

Well, developing from your example, why not make it less specific? Like maybe 'user harassment'?
You have some good points there spinner but it doesn't look like it's registering lol. Unsure how to make it any clearer!

ok let me put it this way!!!!!!!!
"spinner banned for sexual harrassment"
Even though you may have a completely untarnished record previously, You type something that was taken in the wrong context, you get banned.
Now would you like to be known as a sexual harraser for the rest of your life? NO is the answer.
Leave things as they were before, nobody needs to know anything!!!!!!!!!

Just like the good old days Farren
One thing i think may be being forgotten in all this is that if this were done with the "list" idea, it would only be the most recent 10 bannings, for example.
Its not like its going to list everyone forever. Would take hours to load

...back on the subject in hand...
im going to stand by my idea no matter what now
its shows what type of bannings there are to newbie's, it also shows the amount of bans so you dont have to count how many if there was a name and shame thread, also its compact and very simple. it shows new people to the site that we are serious about banning and have very little tolerance against it. heres my exaple by the way
pernament bans
24 people have been banned for constant swearing
56 people have been banned for abuse
13 people have been banned for spamming

Problem with that damee is that it doesn't mean anything.
The idea was to help all users including those banned by having reasons for individual bannings shown, therefore also acting as a deterrent.
Believe it or not drunklad, this idea does help protect the privacy of banned members too, by eliminating any kind of rumor-mongering.
However, as has been said before, bannings cannot happen without very good reason, and are very much a last resort.
It comes back to that simple statement - if you dont want anyone to know the rules you break. Dont break them.
Lets try the other angle which has never been answered yet - how is it fair for booting reasons to be shown, yet not fair for bannings?

booting reasons are not so serious thereofore it doesnt mean much. banning is very serious and only happens when something realy bad has happened. therefore this is kept more secret as it has happened and we know the person who has been banned has done something really bad
