Shame about Adams but he didn't get the luck in his early days, confidence has gone and he doesn't know how to deal with it.
Sorry but I can't think of anyone I'd like less in a relegation battle than Quashie...! Was that a joke?
It's very easy to criticise from the outside looking in with limited knowledge on the subject. I'm sure I once thought I could manage football teams too.

Pompey aren't to good to go down, the players brought in to me are not the players needed for a relegation battle. I expected players like Nigel Quashie who have experienced it all before to come in, not Greeks who need time to adapt, time which pompey do not have. Stoke have bought well in the transfer window, Etherington was a great bit if business and beatie and camera

Nigel Quashie would at least have the no how, Zolten Gera would also have been a good buy. Pompey sold Diarra for 20million, and it doesn't seem like they have bought well enough with that, and it is showing.
Adams should of been sacked either before the transfew window, or they should of stuck with him till the end of the season, cos the manager now has to get the best out of the new signings Adams has brought in, whereas the new manager would have bought differently. The right decision was made in the end.
Hmmm what about a Harry return?

Yes i agree Adams should now of been given till the end of the season now he has bought in his selection of players, personally i cant understand why he was employed anyway, They need to bring in a manager with some charisma now to pick up the team,
Shay Given this weekend was a legend and saved city's skins!! i am lovin it

Is Nigel Quashie not the most relegated Premier League player ever, im sure i remember reading that somewhere......Pompey could do far worse than to keep Paul Hart in charge on a permanent basis with Woany assisting him. Shame Jonny Metgod had to follow Adams out the door and if you continue clearing out all Forest's ex players/managers, id love to see them back at The City Ground!

Yes, Quashie has been relegated 4 times plus he brings bad attitude to the dressing room. We had him at his peak in Portsmouth 4 years ago (he often was in the same club as me in Portsmouth celebrating on Saturday nights regardless of the result) and despite our CM being depleted he wouldn't add anything to our squad now.
the_kop, we didn't have the money to invest £20 million back in players, we spent all we could. This is the unfortunate reality of non top-4 club, we're on a different planet.
However despite losing Diarra and Defoe the quality of our squad is easily better than 3 other teams in the Premiership, and I doubt anyone would disagree. Of course that doesn't mean we'll be safe. We need a decent manager to get confidence back; we have a high proportion of games against teams in the bottom half so it's more than achievable.
I'm hoping Avram Grant is confirmed. Fantastic record as a manager, knows a lot of our players and gets on with his job with little fuss.

Well Pompey sold Diarra for £20m and Defoe for £18m thats £38m that hasn't been in any way re-invested.
Pompeys owner (cant remember his name) is looking to sell the club, as he is obviously making massive losses. However, spending an extra £10-15m than what they did would increase their chances of staying in the premiership. If Pompey do go down, then he will have his work cut out to sell Pompey at even half the asking price at present.

Alexandre Gaydamak is looking to sell asap so i presume he pocketed the cash from those 2 sales Mike, that way he wont be so bothered if he doesnt get the asking price......thats the only reason i can think of for not reinvesting some of it.
Nick, can you name which 3 you think have worse squads? As far as i can see, Portsmouth have an ageing side (James, Campbell, Distin are 3 of your stand out players and are all getting on) and with Nugent playing as your goalscorer at the minute, I wouldnt be inspired by your squad. (His record of scoring goals is far from fantastic, thats not to say hes not a good striker but i wouldnt like to rely on him for goals.)
Under Redknapp, Pompey were overachieving, which is testament to his man management skills and if you dont get a similar kind of manager in, I can see you going down, losing your few remaining good players like Crouch and Kranckjar and stealing Earnshaw (as rumoured) from us
Ideal candidate IMO would be Roberto Martinez from Swansea, but whether you could get him I dont know.
As for Scolari, he never looked convincing, since when have Chelsea not been able to defend corners. Mourinho must be laughing his head off as Inter sit top of Serie A having got rid of Quaresema......Chelsea need to get Darren Ferguson in from Peterborough, that would be brilliant! I think in reality the job will go to Guus Hiddink, provided Abramovich is retaining his interest in the club and uses his powers of persuasion!

There is a vicious rumour doing the rounds that Chelsea sacked Scolari mainly because Portsmouth axed Adams, to trump them to Mr Grant......i hope Grant tells Abramovich where to go after the way he was treated.....i suspect he wouldnt though

OK, you've both got some of the facts wrong about PFC.
Last season our squad was seriously over budget. It was estimated at the 6th or 7th most expensive squad in the Premiership in terms of wages. We don't have the income to support this so we couldn't maintain it for a long time. Last season we finished 8th so we actually *slightly* underachieved. So we weren't over-achieving with Redknapp (despite what Redknapp and the papers would let you believe). The beginning of this season under Redknapp we had lost 4-0 twice and 6-0 so the slide started with him at the helm.
We've since had to recuperate money. We gambled on Adams and had to make about £25m to get us back in the black. Player disruption and unrest has caused additional problems so I feel sorry for Adams under these conditions. However we sold players for £20m + £15m and invested back about £7m in transfer fees. After this business we have no serious financial problems.
Regarding player transfers we're not that much weaker than before the transfer window. Diarra was injured since November, and Defoe was in a barren run and not contributing (it was so difficult for him to play without Redknapp, bless). Taking on Mullins, Basinas and Pennant in particular improves our midfield, which was our weak point. So the squad is not as valuable but at least it's better balanced.
Regarding safety it's really going to be a battle when it shouldn't be, our squad is similar to what it was about 18 months ago when we were winning games for fun. However once the confidence goes it's a completely different ball game. Last season we dropped 2 points from winning positions, this season we've dropped 12 already. Really not good and indicative of low confidence.
We don't have an aging side, we have an aging defence - but they still should be good until the end of the season! The peak age for a central defender without injury problems is early 30s.

Yeah your right. He was a goalkeeper.
Thats why he is bitter. He is an Everton fan though, which must compound his bitterness completley.
