The first part shows that only counts in the case of collision:
rules said:
If the two balls touch while being lagged, the player whose ball strayed across the center of the table will loose the lag.

oh true....!
But in any case, all the real carom i've seen on videos has one way to lagshot.
I'll do this Nick...
I'll ask 2009 World Champion Filippos Kasidokostas, he is a neihbour, and we're friends on Facebook
i'll give u a str8 answer very soon!

Well, I guess there are differentiations between rules because in Rileys snooker hall, it clearly states that when lagging, connecting with the side rail is forefitting the lag.
But yeah on Rileys wall they print the rules, reads something like "Official rules of Great Britain Billiard Association" Something like that, even if it was allowed (the 'cheat' lag) then this site should exclude the possibility of using it.
What use is it to new players? Half of them smash the balls on the lag anyway.
But imagine...
some new players joins a carom game...
I cheat lag and gurantee the break shot
I then make a 5+ off the break (which is far from difficult)
they then take a shot not knowing what they are even doing
games over
Does anyone think that this new player is fancying another game?
They leave with a negative outlook on carom and in a negative manner.
Single handedly spoils the game for new people.
But like all the people who have tried to play carom, actually fall in love with it.
Just lost £200 playing blacjack online because I pressed hit on 20!!! Meant to press split with QQ but pressed hit and it gave me an 8. Disgusting.
Hand before that the dealer makes 21 from 6 cards to beat my 20, 18, 18.
2, 2, 4, 3, 3, 7.

with cheat lag and cheat break, your ball ends up in an almost 100% 2nd point too.
(2-0, no effort whatsoever)
But the beginning of the solution has been done today.

im fairly sure you have to do it straight down the table, although ican't prove it. but just thinking about it logically, it's supposed to be a fair test of who gets to start and shouldn't really be decided by who has found the right dot to smash it to. it should require skill

@ whocares and @ Nick
in real carom BOTH players start simultaneously!
so, one cannot start lag by hitting any other side but his own!
It's very clear, and only IF (by accident) goes to opponents side then the underlined rule above applies (about collision etc)
it's very str8forward in my opinion

would be good if that was possible
yeah imo if your ball crosses over to opponents side at ANY point in the lag it should be classed as a foul then that way you only have your half to work with and no cheat lags can be executed.
what you think of these nick...
1 thing i would like to request, is to be able to choose what colour to practice with, and it doesn't switch to the other colour when you miss, this will give you the opportunity to practice the breakoff with yellow instead of only white.
as for points maybe keep it 5 for newbies but unlock 10 as an option when you lose newbie status which means it will be 10 in tournaments too?

Yeah, this is exactly the problem.
It would be easy for me to find a spot to then hit full power for it to work 100%. But I know personally, that im good enough to hit the breakshot 95% of the time. Its a pretty simple shot.
Thats why I said having to place the cue-ball in a specific place, or it alternating between frames ultimately prevents this from occuring.
If there was a position on the table where the shot would work, and a place next to identical to that position, where the same shot would fail is what we are aiming for. In my eyes of course.

On the idea of the lags being hit at the same time, surely time difference of the computers, lag etc; will cause this to be unable to happen.... unless Nick can make it so that you both lag, then the server plays the 2 at the same time or something like that.....
Also, maybe you hit the ball, but it doesn't show where it goes, so it's a mystery until the lag is shown if it is a good one or not ?
