So you've had a game with someone and, depending on how good you are you've either been kicked around the table or done the kicking yourself. If you were playing in the real world, no doubt you'd say "good game" or "well played" or "unlucky" or something along those lines at this point. And, to their credit, a number of people on FS do. But there's this weird little subset that seems determined to never, ever say it, regardless of how many times you say it to them, and it's these people that I ask: what the hell is your problem? It's just incredibly rude, and there's enough awfulness in the world already. Surely it doesn't take that long to type 'gg' or 'wp'? Doesn't tax you so much that to do it would be unbearable?

In the interests of common decency and polite society, I'm asking you all to say something at the end of each game. And to those that won't, I'll never play you again and I'll spend all my time wishing minor inconveniences on you; that buses pass you by, people shut doors in your face and that your local shopkeeper never once smiles or says hello. Because that's the decent thing to do, and although realistically I would like to see you mauled by AIDS-carrying wolves, as discussed there's enough awfulness in the world already, so I'm standing by my morals.

I think you've misunderstood the word 'irony'. And possibly the words 'immense' and 'proportion' too.

I hear you man....you'll find that the ones who wont say anything at the end are usually in the " under 18's" category.....thy are just less mature and generally couldnt care less.

Where as the older people nearly all say something at the end. It just shows you that some people just couldnt care less about anything they do, or giving good manners to anybody.

You'll find these people everywhere.

On street corners, on buses with their tinny music blaring, talking OVERLY loud on any public transport, in the shop staring anywhere but at the clerk nd not saying thanks, lots of people with iphones, or a blackberry..people with too much money and flashy cars..........you get the point.

Unfortunately they're everywhere and there's nothing you can do, just be the bigger person and have some manners

Wishing for someone to be mauled by AIDS-carrying wolves could also be seen as slightly impolite by many, especially for such a small misdemeanor

Why should everyone say something at the end of a game? This is a game, not a socializing network. Some people don't want to say a word during their play and I find that understandable.

Personally I usually use + like the gg-wp niceties, but sometimes I just like to play a game and hit the road, especially against a person I've never spoken to before. So, I agree it's nice to be kind to your opponent, but I think the way you're putting it is irrational and somewhat offensive.

As before, if it were the real world you wouldn't play with someone who refused to conform to the usual niceties. If you play a game with someone, part of that is sportsmanship, in which courtesy plays a pretty large role. You don't want to talk? Fine, I'm not saying you start asking about their kids or how their day was. I'm just saying that it's a show of respect and not to indulge in it is incredibly, incredibly rude. Just leaving is even worse and taints the game.

I'm willing to take irrational- stuff like this winds me up, although not, honestly, as much as I'm making out (if you look carefully at my original post there are plenty of clues that it's not entirely po-faced), but offensive? Offensive how? And to who? To idiots and those incapable of even the most basic etiquette, that'd be my guess. In which case, good.

i think he means the generally abusive people who you can tell dont say it because you've won and they're just mean.

Pretty much the equivalent of 'I know you are, you said you are, so what am I?'. Again, sterling work.

No trolling involved here I'm afraid, just bringing up a subject for discussion. We'll try and find a way to manage without you in this thread, lottysdad, but it won't be easy- who else can match your insight? Anyway, thanks for the memories...

There are two sides to this - doesn't it irritate you when you've
played like an absolute nerd, lost by a vast score to have your
opponent say UL-GG when you both know it wasn't, imo that's just a pointless, automatic throw away couple of key strokes that the player just makes at the end of every game.

I'd prefer them to say nothing.

I'm all for courtesy but lets be honest if you fluke a ball and
type 'sry' you don't mean it - you're glad it went in its just another
automatic response.

I'm all for giving respect and will openly praise the good players but not use the stock set of initials as think they are meaningless.

Thats your opinion of it and theres nothing wrong with what you said.

But allot of the players(myself included) say it to be polite and might not even be referring to the games standard of play when they type it . It's mostly just a kind hearted gesture to the player and simple manners.

I also, like allot of players say sorry when i fluke. I'm obviously glad i've fluked and it gives me a chance to collect some points but i do feel bad for the player so me typing it is genuine. Just like when a professional player raises his hand in a match.
