If a player has smashed the pack and made a 50+ or even a hundred, i would congratulate or type wp. i wouldnt call it a good game because i didnt actually play.

Thats interesting, and a good example of why there is no right or wrong in this kinda thing.

If I was in that exact situation, I would type "gg", as they player had, up to that point, played a Good Game. "wp" to me indicates it is over - "well played"

Im just saying there are people here, some of them regular players, that wont type " gg ul" because they think they are above that. And they just lack manners.

There may be some like that, but there are equallly as many who automatically type it after every game irrespective of whether it actually was a good game, and that is way more rude/patronising than saying nothing. It takes no time at all to type a genuine comment after all.

Oh you misunderstood me m8, i said nothing of the sort, if you'll read back all my post here i havent said anything offensive to anyone. Especially people who i have played and enjoy playin with, yourself included.

Im just saying there are people here, some of them regular players, that wont type " gg ul" because they think they are above that. And they just lack manners. To be fair i just say it to be polite to everyone i meet. It is just annoying to have no response at all...or...." But it wasnt a good game" and i have to clarify that im actually just being nice.

Speaking of games mate, we played about a year ago, where have u been??

I'm sorry to say this mate, but sometimes people who are 60 points ahead of you think its quite hilarious to snooker you and play about with you. In this case, would you still consider saying "gg" although you haven't even had a shot, and when you do, they start to mess things up? If anything, that does get annoying, although there is nothing wrong with it. It's human nature to get a bit annoyed at little things like that, but then your opponent should therefore understand that you had a bit of a rough game, and they'd be lucky to receive a response at the end of it. Some people still do give a response as they aren't really affected by it, but other do get wound up, and you have to understand that.

P.S. Sorry about going off on a rant

Aye good point,i think the general thesis is that there are players who are nice and there are players who are not!

In my world everyone wold be lovely and just get along!

I think John Lennon sang about that once?

Firstly, I would like to apologise for sounding patronising. I generally prefer to use peoples names because in my opinion it is more polite than using usernames. Difference of opinion.

To answer your question though, no I wouldnt just walk away after a game in real life. I have said earlier though that if people play good shots I will acknowledge that. I disagree that you should be polite for the sake of being polite.

Dont know who mentioned about a username being associated with good manners, that really doesnt bother me. In my personal and professional life yes peoples opinions do matter to me. Online it really makes no difference because nothing stops anybody reinventing themselves under a new name.

Everybody is different, you come on to speak to people and have fun. I come on because I am bored and want to pass some time.

The other thing that needs to be considered, if you have nothing more to worry about than whether people type some rather pointless letters on a screen before/during/after a game of online snooker then life really is rather easy for you.

That is my opinion and I am as entitled to it as everybody else is on here.

Why do people like you have to be so cynical all the time. Trying to act like you got some wisdom and dictating how people should behave. If someone posts gg in a match with the intent of being polite, why would that bug you?. Allot of people generally mean it so you all should lay off with the negativity. We all know it's just a game and we don't know the people we play/talk to and probably never will, but we still stand by our morals and act how we would in any other environment. If you don't want to say anything and treat players who write well intended gg's after a match with so much disdain then so be it but don't spit on everyone else's good nature.
I am not disagreeing with people actually intending to be polite when it is necessary. I actually do that myself.
What annoys me is people saying it when its completely untrue. If its a terrible game then I never say gg.

You are dictating now how I should behave. I never dictated how anybody should behave. I only offered my opinion. You did the same. We are allowed do that arent we?

When i play an opponent in a real life league game or tournament, i actually say "good game" as we shake hands at the start of a game, as i am hoping we have a good game (i don't like saying "good luck" as i actually don't want him to have good luck against me lol).

At the end of the match i will generally say "well played" if he/she has beaten me or "unlucky" if i beat my him/her even if my opponent hasn't had bad luck, it's just feels the right thing to say.

But if i wish people gg before the start of a game on FunkySnooker they think i'm taking the mick and that i'm thinking i've already won the game!!

How many times have we got to say it. Allot of the time we aren't referring to the standard of the match or how good either of you have played. It's just a good natured nicety.

If this still bugs so many people then maybe we should all agree that the players who want to be nice and say "gg m8" at the end of the match something else to avoid 'offending' people.

For me, I will say 'gg' whenever it is a good game, hence the abbreviation. There is no use in saying 'gg' when they/you score a decent break and it's not an even, well contested game. I will, however, congratulate them by saying 'wp' if they deserve it.

I think this has been mentioned before, but I'll raise it again - another thing is the language barrier. If you're on at 2am English Time, you're more than likely to be playing someone who doesn't know much English, if not any, and from that, god help them if you're using abbreviations such as 'gg' or 'wp'. They would just not understand!

At the end of the day, if you say it because you're being nice, all well and good, but I still see no problem with people not saying it, if it is not deserved.

This thread is all about good manners and what irritates ppl.

I think a more important way to approach when playing is to let the other player know at the start if you only intend to play just one frame. I see this as a courtesy and makes it clear at the start.

I do this as it irritates me when others just play one frame and go, usually a lower ranked player who, after winning, grabs the points and runs.

If I'm playing a few frames I say when we start the last frame that this is my last, seems only polite.

Also if I'm fortunate enough to win a frame against a much higher ranked player i will always try to play at least two more frames, giving them the chance to get their points back and you never know I might just nick another one.

I think this approach is far more sportsmanlike than typing a few stock abbreviations.

Firstly this thread is amazing, the opening post? Its up there with the best all time.

"AIDS carrying wolves".

But the actual subject itself has so many variables. If I play someone that I did not like on the game, I would still say gg wp. But if im playing the people I like, and we have 10 games, I wont type it for every game, its not much effort but its not really worth it. I say ul, if its really unlucky, not just a fairly decent try. Some people over exaggerate gg, wp, ul... I dont.

Also if I was in a good mood I'd always credit them, bad mood I probably wouldnt.

I wouldnt let it bring me down if somebody didnt say "gg wp", I would see a shrink. So there is my advice

Only read the first 5 posts...

to be fair thats about the most words you've ever read in your life though derry .

agree with that point that if you are playing multiple games then saying things at the end of each one isnt necessary, unless they make a good break/run of course.
