There are two sides to this - doesn't it irritate you when you've
played like an absolute nerd, lost by a vast score to have your
opponent say UL-GG when you both know it wasn't, imo that's just a pointless, automatic throw away couple of key strokes that the player just makes at the end of every game.

I'd prefer them to say nothing.

I'm all for courtesy but lets be honest if you fluke a ball and
type 'sry' you don't mean it - you're glad it went in its just another
automatic response.

I'm all for giving respect and will openly praise the good players but not use the stock set of initials as think they are meaningless.

not true, i actually get annoyed more i fluke, ask destiny, sometimes i would rush next shot purposely as i feel i wouldn't deserve the frame.

So if it's a bad game on both parts you still say gg? Makes no sense!

Also a very key point you missed is that some players ain't English who play. They may not understand the concept of saying it.

Finally, no professional player says it after each frame so why do we?

im not keen on the wolves but i do agree with having respect for your opponent and sometimes gg vul is more an apology for winning than actually saying gg.....

however after you have missed every shot going and look like a complete novice, being told ul gg is about as annoying as it gets but i guess thats funky!!!

Like loads of people said......i always say it just to be polite, i dont matter what kinda game it was.

Why, i ask some of you, would you not say it? It takes literally about 1 sec to type it and press enter. Its just being nice. You wouldnt go about life never saying thanks or please or any kind of common courtesy would you?

So im totally for this thread i think its genuis...it just shows you the players that dont say it. They come in here going.." Why should i say it? I'm too cool for that, why would i need to say it? Why? Why?"

Genius

I am never sorry when I fluke a shot, and i never apologise, i instead laugh, and if it was in the real world, i again would laugh and probably run around the table with the cue between my legs and ride it like it horse all around the table to gloat. As it is a game, and should be fun. And i think it amusing when I fluke a shot and my opponent says "wow your not even gonna say sorry?".. oh your asking for an apology pmsl

As for saying the usual niceitises well you talk about people are pretty much too lazy to type.. well hold on, people type gg,gl,ul... people are too lazy to type the actual words. Double standards youth

damien, after each match professional players shake hands which is the same idea. sadly its very hard to shake hands online so we have to resort to "gg" i guess.

Good point there. Why would we say good game if your opponent didn't feel it was a good game? If you get beat by someone who hit a half century or even, a century, then it is understandable that the player who won should get some credit for it, and an applause from your behalf, but if the game was pretty much a stale mate throughout and you didn't enjoy, i believe that you shouldn't have to say "gg" because as a matter of fact, it may not have a been a good game in your opinion.

if that was the case i would say something like "pretty grim game there mate" or something.

if it was real life would you pot the black and not say anything to your opponent and walk off?

I dont get it....why are some people trying really hard to defend not saying " gg " at the end of a game.....

Pretty much like saying...." i come here to pot my balls and leave. I dont care about manners or other players. If i win i want some respect, but generally i will not show any curtoesy whatsoever beacuse i dont really have to. So there"

Do you know how bad you sound?

This thread is genuis.....keep them coming...any more regulars wanna say anything....im loving this

Lots of tie-ins to the whole "early gg" thing etc, quite interesting.

I am certainly of the opinion that "gg" should only be used when appropriate, as in, when it is a good game. Completely irrespective of whather it is the beginning, middle or end.

I suspect 99% or more players are playing with a keyboard with the full alphabet on it, so there is no reason not to make a genuine comment on a game, a shot, or anything else.

Mechanically saying "gg" is way worse than saying nothing IMO.

However, more crucial than all of that is that if you find that anything about any online game is capable of affecting your mood to the point of being genuinely annoyed, let alone "wishing death on people", you really should stop playing immediately and move on to some other pastime.

As many people have already said we say gg just to be polite and courteous. I don't know why people ^ are so determined not do it, if not only to just appease the player. It takes less than a second. The stubbornness is unbelievable!.

It shows a players character
