Nope that bit was storyline, but he was knocked out for a short time during a match in Spain last week.

It sure was!

A classic example of someone pitching an idea to Vince, or him having it himself, and it going ahead without anybody standing back to point out how awful it really is..

Other than that though, a great PPV, and really blew Slammiversary out of the water, ironically, by going back to good old fashioned wrestling.

Shame about the dodgy finish to the opener, it was as if the ref forgot how to do a sleeper finish and there was that awkward pause before acknowledging Ziggler as the new US champ. Great match though, seems so rare to have an "anyone can win" vibe these days but they hit it perfectly.

Riley and Miz was what it would be expected to be, with a good clean win for Riley and a decent "get out" of a ref tussle for Miz to complain about. I'm unsure what will happen to Riley's heat once he moves on though. I guess time will tell.

Mark Henry's destruction of the Big Show before his match with Del Rio was awesome. One of those "had to see it live" moments. Show sold the leg injury perfectly and it was good to see a stoppage used to end a match, and great to know this feud has a way to go yet.

Great opening promo from Wade Barrett to start the IC match, and he did his best to carry "big Zeke", but it was very formulaic, Barrett tapping out to the torture rack - one of the most unrealistically awful moves thats for dome reason always been popular.

Punk/Mysterio next, and the pre-match promo by Punk is intriguing: he promises to win, and then to "do the most honest thing any WWE star has ever done."

I thought he was going to announce he had had enough and was leaving, as is rumored, but despite him winning what was easily the match of the night, cleanly, in a great finishing sequence of reversals, he just walked to the back and said nothing. Maybe tonight on RAW...

Orton/Christian wasn't near as good as their previous encounters. Perhaps due to Ortons legit injury. It was short, just over 10 minutes I think, and was a slow starter with Orton just hitting the RKO out of nowhere for the win while Christians leg was clearly under the bottom rope. Obviously this isn't over, but hopefully Shamus will be involved next time..

Then the unadvertised Swagger/Bourne "rubber match" - could have been great if it was expected, but even shorter than the previous match and a crowd pleasing win for Bourne. This, combined with the over-long "Obama" segments already mentioned, pretty much confirms the less than healthy status of Orton and Cena.

The way Cena/Truth played out emphasised Cena's status even more. He took it very easy with Truth carrying most of the match, and looking awesome doing it. A quick match again, with a cool but not really PPV finish as Truth went to share a fans drink only to have them throw it in his face, quick AA from Cena and thats that.

Nice feel-good ending to a quick paced and entertaining PPV, but I really can't see why they don't take the belt off Cena and let him heal for a while in the leadup to Wrestlemania, hopefully after Summerslam, they will. And hopefully it will be because R-Truth is champ, as he deserves to be.

Only other thing of note was a few "We want Ryder" chants, WWE can't ignore it for much longer, but of course they will find a way mess it up most likely!

Right, time to get a cuppa and catch up on other news before RAW

My cynical flat mate who has regained his interest in wrestling reckons that Cena will never 'turn heel' because he sells a lot of action figures by being the good guy.

Is that in anyway accurate? Or just yet more cynical ramblings of a tortured mind?

Raw hmmm not the greatest fans pick was far too obvious most of the matches if i am quite honest the whole mark henry thing is just pointless and out of the blue if you ask me ... adr doesnt deserve to be anyhere near a tital shot in my opinion they should run him for the ic or the united states belt .. cm punks announcement was to be expected as you said really spinner because he has been rumoured to leave and well he said he was going to do the most honest thing any wwe superstar has ever done .. not too sure if its honest but hey ho ... kelly kelly becoming divas champ .. it doesnt mean anything to me at all most of the divas cannot wrestle to the extent some wrestlers in the past have been able to in my opinion and its just one of those things that until karma comes back we will have to deal with a string of good looking no talent girls holding the belt .. tag team division seems very off at the moment they need to get a real big team back into wwe dudleyz hardyz something has got to happen in that division because at the moment it is dying a death .. cena should turn heel for a while maybe only if it is in the run up to wrestlemania but they have still goto think of something else to do in that match cena vs the rock because them two just fighting it out wether its for the title or not is just not a big enough draw for a wrestlemania main event in my opinion i still think it needs to be a huge elimination event with the likes of taker triple h maybe a michaels and austin return .. something really needs to be done though .. really think aswell they have to sort out a raw gm it is becomin extremely tedious the michael cole reading off paper and a blatant fake laptop tbh lol

The thing is Cena is already considered a heel by about half the crowd, so there isn't much they can do to change that from a match point of view. As a character, yeah, he could turn on the fans etc, but it would make the work he does the 90% of the time he's not wrestling make no sense at all. Lots of people don;t realise how much he does outside WWE, which of course is all publicity for them.

Heel wrestlers usually sell just as much, even more in some cases, merchandise as faces. Just look at Austin, Rock, HBK, Taker, HHH - all spent far more time of their peak runs as heels than as faces.

What WWE has with Rock/Cena is the dream situation, where its completely up to the fans who they like or don't like. Thats what sells tickets and keeps a show interesting, you know they'll just have to play it by ear.

But thats a long way away yet!

Hopefully we have Punks title run to come before that. Even though its all but certain he has agreed a new contract or a least a short extension (yep, i mean the summerslam promotion!), its a refreshing angle and I hope they go with some major beatdown on Cena to keep him off TV for a while so the buildup to WM seems fresher.

Interesting to see WWE.com is reconing there was a fault that cause Mason Ryan to be picked over Sin Cara. Personally, I doubt that.

Fun RAW though, and the Truth/Christian/Miz segment was sheer magic, I had rewound and watched it 3 or 4 times before raw was finished. Gonna watch it again now actually!

Quality bit of tweeting from CM Punk for those who remember the last time he did this angle. Pretty much word for word what he said in 2005 before his title match with Aries, which he of course won.

Lets hope for the same outcome this time

Now we also know the subject of the "Big DVD Project JR has been mentioning for months in his column. Should be interesting to see how they tell the story now all parties are involved (Shawn and Bret, for those who haven't already read about it).

I assume you forgot to do the update bit!

No big news over the weekend but Tyson Kidd's face turn is all but done (he was babyface at the weekend house shows (an inevitable tie-in to the new DVD project) and Chavo G?urerro finally got his release so is free to go where he wants, but I doubt we will see him anywhere soon.

Looking forward to RAW tomorrow, always fun when HBK is on and can't wait for more from CM Punk..

Nope, sorry, thats a common misconception but is easily disproven by simply watching Wrestling.

Yes, outcomes are pre-planned, storylines are written sometimes years ahead, some segments are scripted, but its 100% real.

Indeed the fact is scripted makes it even more difficult. Footballers, Boxers, MMA fighters etc can all stop if they suffer an injury. Wrestlers have to carry on to at least tell the story they have to. We've seen them do this with broken legs, arms, necks and even with both quads torn.

Feel a bit silly calling it fake?

Ok guys i watched raw from last night the shawn michaels thing was a bit funny but didnt really see much of him the roullette matches were obviously quite sketched already a bit annoying really ... as for the r truth john cena saga i do feel that r truth has pretty much carried it single handedly Cm Punk is becoming rather annoying and i can see after what he said about vince mc mahons idiotic daughter and the doofus son in law he may take a beating sooner rather than later .. i think wwe needs some new life in it .. all the up and coming NEW characters seem to just turn heel straight away and its becoming rather tedious one of the best new faces is a riley he is actually a pretty class act in the ring and not a bad mic talker either ...

I got called out halfway through RAW so have only got home to watch the 2nd half now and wow, CM Punk stole the show with that final promo!

At long, long last its looking like things may improve and get back to the real edge they had for that short time at the end of the "attitude era".

The rest of the show wasn't bad, the quality cage match between ADR and Show sure borught back memories seing Mark Henry job to the cage door again And show going through the cage was cool, one-off gimmicks like that always work.

Definitely one of the better RAW's, and CM Punk's promo is a must-see..

Right after RAW, WWE.com announced Punks immediate suspension from WWE and stripping of the title shot at the next PPV.

They played it out very much as a shoot, but since next weeks RAW is already in the cans, we already know what happens next :

John Cena's music played but he didn't come out. It stopped and out came Mr. McMahon to a decent reaction. He said that the C.M. Punk suspension has gotten out of hand and the camera man fixed his tie. He said Punk deserved to be suspended for what he said. He said this was about what was right for the fans. McMahon said he really suspended Punk because he wanted limo service and wanted to be on DVDs and such and he wasn't worthy. He then said he fired Punk because he deserved it and he is a punk. Cena came out to a big reaction even in his third appearance tonight. He asked Vince if that was it? He accused Vince of kicking Punk to the curb and Vince said Punk kicked himself to the curb. Cena said Vince believes in free speech and Vince confirmed it. Cena then made fun of Vince's walk and said that Vince took everyone down because he's a fighter. He wondered why Vince wasn't a fighter now and said he wants to fight Punk. He said if Vince doesn't feel like fighting, he should hang it up. Vince said he really suspended Punk because be doesn't want to take a chance on Cena. He doesn't want to risk Cena losing to Punk and losing the title and taking it to another organization. He said he will not be embarrassed. Vince said he's afraid of Cena not beating Punk. Cena said he wanted this match regardless of Punk's status. Cena said if he was a fan, this sounds like the match of the year to him. He asked if Vince would suspend him for saying something Vince didn't like. Vince told Cena not to upset him. He said not to be Hogan or any of the guys before him. Vince said he doesn't believe Cena can beat him. Cena said to take a chance and give the people what they want. Vince said he doesn't give a damn what the people want, it's his company and he does what is right for them. Cena said he gets it. He then said it's not what he signed up for. He said he busts his butt for Vince and he believes the belt stands for something. He said Vince is worried that the belt is meaningless, but by sending Punk away he made it meaningless. Cena handed the belt to Vince and walked out. Vince stopped him and followed him up the ramp. He stood face to face with Cena on the ramp and said Punk is reinstated and he has the match. Vince said that if Punk walks out of Chicago with the title, he is firing Cena.

Lets hope and pray this is gonna be Cena out for a while!

Everybody in the industry is giving CM Punk huge credit for the final promo however word on the street is... he was meant to be on the mic for a promo, and talk about why he was leaving, the title match etc... but he took it way over the top, mentioning taboos like Brock Lesnar, New Japan Wrestling, Paul Heyman which is a HUGE NO NO and Vince McMahon himself pulled the mic when Punk slagged off Steph and Hunter... apprently CM punk is now gone from tv altogether with the suspension.... truth or more likely a 'work'

I think you missed a fair bit of the story there. Are you aware of WWE's recent interview with Paul Heyman?

Also, the "big no-no" is mentioning TNA, and you'll notice he never did, only ROH, with whom WWE has a "relationship". The best bit of all was the way they saved pulling the plug 'till Punk was abut to mention Ryder, as if all the rest was ok but that *had* to be pulled! Brilliant.

Not to mention that if you read my spoiler there, next weeks RAW kinda gives the game away, as did NXT last night

Still, great angle, and lets hope it plays out the same way it did in 2005...

I just saw the CM Punk promo, and it was quite brilliant, but still obviously a promo.

The fact people think he went to far, or crossed a line suggests just how good it was.
