Well I have done nothing different on my computer at all, and now the site seems to be working ok Touch wood.....

We've actually had 2 distinct problems over the last few days. The first were problems caused by the database (I'm about 90% sure). So today I performed a restart including the database (this is the first database restart for about a year). In any case, I am keeping an eye on this but it seems resolved.
Additionally today there have been intermittent network problems over the last couple of hours.
