Hello. Lord Wood here.
I would like Newbies to be BANNED from Tournaments.
Newbies were allowed into Tournaments in one of the latest patches in the game in an attempt to make Tournaments bigger. This is a good idea to make Tournaments bigger however there are some big flaws.
1. Ranking Points. So you get drawn against a Newbie in a Tournament. Its a hard fought game, they clearly arent a "newbie", they know how to play.. its a hard fought win and you receive... 0.1 Ranking Points. What is the point for the Proven Player?
2. Time. With the introduction of Newbies in Tournaments, Tournaments last far longer. Power Snooker for instance. I have just been involved in the Power Snooker Tournament. I played 5 Games in Total... Four of these games were against Newbies, meaning the Final finished a full 1hr40 after it began. By the time I reached the final, I was Mentally Snookery exhausted. 4 games against Newbies made this Tournament far too long, and with 15 minutes per game, thats 1 hour of playing I shouldnt of been in, and Newbies tend to leave at somepoint too, again, what is the point...
Combined with Ranking points and Time. Those 4 games for instance in total I gained 1.3 Rank Points.. i play a Pro in the Final, exhausted, and lose 8.4.
IMO.. Its ok to allow Newbies in Arcade... but id draw the line there. Ban them from Regular, Original, Power & Carom.
Thank You

^^ Thank You for your input.
Another thing with this. Newbies can win Ranking Points quickfold if they were to win 30 Tournament Games in a Row. You could win 30 in a row and reach the heights of 830... meaning people who play the game working their way up with graft are overtaken by somebody who has played 30 games.
When I am drawn against a Newbie and he starts to woop my bottom, Part of me is glad. Glad that I am getting beaten by a Newbie as I will hardly lose any Ranking Points. So there is that aspect of this also.

Yer im not keen on it either.. i won a few power tournys 3 i think and gained 4.5 rank points in total for winning them.. then i try to win the 4th one in a week and lose -7.8 so i lost more in 1 tourny then i did for winning 3 of them.
OH and i forgot i lost this much to a newbie in reg tourny the other day..
moyesyside Regular Speed Tournament - moyesyside (1) 64-54 (0) davey1985
RANKINGS: moyesyside 707.4 (+8.9), davey1985 764.0 (-7.7)
2 days ago davey1985
why that much rank..

RUBBISH - if you lose to them, you shouldn't, end of. Let 'em in, we should all beat anyone put in front of us, then you are most deserving of the tournies you win. As for wood's comment about finally losing due to tiredness after the tournament going on forever due to so many newbies... hahaha, dont make me laugh. Part of winning anything is the ability to go the distance, no matter how long that may be.
Sorry Mr Becker in '85 or whatever it was, you are not allowed to enter (let alone win) Wimbledon this year, cos you're far too young and new and nobody has ever heard of you and you might embarrass a Jonny Mac along the way... Really???
Stop crying about your damaged rank points in these circumstances and just beat them, simple.

Whirlwind... Boris Becker had played games before he had entered Wimbledon... therefore he lost his Newbie Tag, because otherwise I would enter Wimbledon, my Dad would, My Grandad would, my shoe salesman would, my Long Lonst Auntie with an Iron lung would too.
Anybody would agree that 1hr15 minutes of Power Snooker in succession is excessive for anybody, and it gets boring and yes, tiring playing for that long for some.
As for crying about Ranking Points... I dont cry actually, my eyes are pretty dry, I am making a point. But thank you for your contribution.

My usual quote when defeated is simply 2 words, compoundingly misfortunate, if that makes me the above then the trophy for recognition of negative room-sharing experiences goes to you my friend.

i agree with whirlwind, wood if you think how long a marathon tournament is is about the same time of your power tournament.
an idea came up by chris on pool about when you play a newbie your rank freezes but the newbie gains or loses rank as normal, this is the BEST way to do it.
only flaw i can see is when fake newbies reset then enter tournaments to gain mega points but thats where idea above comes in.

What am I meant to be finding out about Mr Cowan even though this is off the subject matter?
Dgen Yes I know (I dont enter Marathons myself due to the lengh as I would obviously win it but I dont wanna be playing a gametype for over 2 hours, it is too long to be playing in anybodys book im sure you would agree, when for instance are you meant to go to the bathroom)... But Newbies are generally making tournaments last a lot longer than they should for the People who Are Non Newbies.Would you yourself Dgeneratio like to play 3 Newbies and win 0.4 ranking Points in total, to then play an Adept and lose 9.0? (I dont care about Rank, some do, so you see my Point)
For the post below - There is no punishment for Real Newbies.. but it is a fair deal that to enter a Tournament that you lose your Newbie Tag beforehand.. otherwise it is unfair on the Players who are Not Newbies...
So a simple question...
What are the advantages for having Newbies in Tournaments to the Professional Player?

not all newbies are fake newbies! why punish them? its the serial resetters and deactivators that need looking at. tho i have to say i dont care either way, just think its abit harsh on real newbies.

20:36 Tue 10 Apr 12 (BST) [Link] I don't think it's harsh. It takes only 30 games to lose your newbie tag. It used to be 100.
I agree with nick that including newbies has definitely increased numbers of players. But I think that could've been achieved in ways other than including newbies.
