you can only ignore 80 players, the site has hundreds on each day so its impossible atm to ignore everyone completely.
you could ignore all pms but doesn't stop in game chat.

In the absence of Damee, someone needs to post it:
Why can't you say gg during a game? It means that it is a good game, if you say make a 30 break, play a good safety, they get out of it, they make a 40 break and then there is a safety battle, why can't you say that it is a good game while you are playing?

Are you being serious here? If that was the case, you reckon I'd have started a thread about it?

02:05 Fri 28 Dec 12 (GMT) [Link] Easy to answer: because "gg" has an implication which is widely recognized.
Typing gg in internet multiplayer games is done at the end of a game and usually means recognizing defeat (if the game is still going on). It simply does not mean what damee claims it means.
"gg" has never meant "it's been a good game so far, but let's see what happens in the rest" and it never will.
It's said at the end of a game. Many players say it when the game is out of reach so that the other will miss and they can concede. Others say it after the game is completed, as usual.
Then there's the fringe that say it to put you off as you're taking the one or two shots that decide a frame. Those go straight to the ignore list

That is all highly subjective and no grounds for any reasonable complaint. Just because most people consider something to be true does not make it so. For hundreds of years most people thought that burning witches was the correct way to deal with a problem, something that nowadays most people would laugh at as ludicrous.
Also, I could quite legitimately say "wp" during a frame and anyone who regularly uses internet sites knows this can mean "wrong person" after saying something. Just because the other person thinks I'm trying to put them off by saying "well played" does not make it so.
The point is, "gg" stands for "good game" and means whatever you want it to mean. "gg" does NOT stand for "that game that has now finished was good". If you wish to make the point that someone said "gg" before the frame was over and were using it to deliberately put you off, you will need to prove that that was their intent.
I would however say that saying "gg wp" does have an implication of the frame being over as "wp" in this context always means "well played" (unlike the other context above) and "played" is of course the past tense. Someone implying a frame is over before it is does smack of bad sportsmanship and this case is more concrete than the very flimsy one of "gg" that many people are jumping on with no evidence to back it up.

What would you consider good enough evidence because nothing I or anyone else has brought up in the past seems good enough for damee/spinner.
Check out any internet slang dictionary or whatever else you may want to use. Look at the vast majority of games on here and any other game site. Read any forum (except this one lol).

Anyone who has played games online for a bit knows what gg means and when it's supposed to be said.
Or just imagine the situation outside of an internet context (in tennis and chess, people actually do say good game when they shake hands afterwards). Who would EVER say "good game" rather than "nice shot" or "great pot" or whatever else you would reasonably say.

Still wondering why my name was brought up though?
Just click the person so that the chat window comes up and click on the button that says ignore. They get added to your ignore list (which can be found using a link on your friends page).

No I'm telling you how it works. Until you can give me concrete proof that they are trying to distract you, your point is irrelevant. As far as I'm concerned someone is innocent until proven guilty, not the other way round. Anyone trying to say that every single person who says "gg" in a certain situation means the same thing is misguided as "most people think something" is not a justification for something.

You've clearly never watched sport with commentary on and heard the commentator say "this is a great game" then? A game can be good before it's over. How about the regularly used phrase in football, rugby, snooker, cricket, tennis "no matter the result from now, this has been a fantastic game".

Completely different scenario, because it's not the players or teams involved saying it.... also, the players can't hear it- if I can hide the chat box, opponents can say anything they want for all I care lol.
Imagine someone taking a shot in real snooker and another person saying "good game" right in the middle of it.
Or a tennis player calling out "good game" as the opponent serves.
On the internet and in real games (and a wide variety of people, websites, forums - anywhere you care to look actually - will confirm this), the phrase "good game" is said at the end of the game or when the game is lost.
You can argue whether that SHOULD be the case or not, but to say that "gg" means anything different is simply false.

Good game means good game for the enjoyment in that game and also how well the other person played
People say it, End of!
Can we stop it, No.
Is it respectful? - Yes is the answer.
Can it put people off? possible if you pay more attention to the writing and announcments than playing in a 10/20 second game.

Not true. Because something is common on-line does not mean everyone knows it. For some people this may be their first experience of an online game. As every member of the site has to be treated equally, we either have to assume that everyone is aware of every common turn of phrase used on other sites, or that they aren't. Therefore we either say that every member on joining has to do background reading on online game terminology and include it in the t&c on joining, or say that everyone is assumed to have no prior knowledge of common online terminology.
In order for your point to stand, every time a player said 'gg' before the end of the frame, admin would have to message them asking for a full list of online games they have played and cross-reference that with commonly used phrases on those sites, then make the decision based on that.
