Seriously adam?
They wouldn't say "gg" if this was their first online game because they wouldn't know what it means haha.

I didn't realize this was an issue for admin at all?
All I've ever said is that it's unsportsmanlike to say it to put others off, which considering the timing of it is blatantly what they're doing.
I usually tell the people who do it that it's poor sportsmanship. Then I usually get two responses, either
1) They apologize because they didn't know (rare)
2) They start an insult tirade and run off (common), which just confirms their intentions in the first place.

But I've never found anyone bar the few people on this forum that has disputed the meaning of "gg".

They play their first frame, opponent says "gg". They ask what it means. Opponent says "it means good game". You now expect them to go away and google how to use it 'correctly'??? Or consider people with very basic English to whom it can only mean that a game is good.

It is very very simple. Whether you like it or not, "gg" means "gg". Nothing else. The simplest solution is to extend the ban on text speak to game rooms. Then no-one will say it, and there will be no problem .

Again, in the very very few cases that you've described, that's true. For the rest of the internetz, it means good game and has a very specific context and appropriate use that all regular players of online games know about. damee simply made up this parallel meaning "it's been a good game so far" to try to win an argument.

As I mentioned before, there is a very small number of people who don't know that they're doing something wrong. But the vast majority does it to put people off.

This isn't an issue admin can solve (unless you give the option of removing the chat window). It's simply unsportsmanlike, which is why these people go on the ignore list!

But it is our job to make sure that the few people who dont know are treated the same as those who do! As I said though, ban text speak in the game room and the problem has gone.

They are treated the same already! They are all put on ignore!

Or some of us point it out to them, at which point they can say they didn't know (and not do it again) or they show themselves to be clowns by lashing out.
ban textspeak? gl with that...

Yes but there are some unlike you who will give the unknowing person a tirade of abuse for saying it when they didn't know. What then?

It's an abbreviation, you can use 'gg' to what ever words you like...I really don't see how it's any less off putting to 'ns'? It's still small writing in a little chat box. People who cry about this are just childish. And when they lose, what do they blame it on? Anything but they're own rubbish shot.

Giving tirades of abuse will surely get them a posting ban right? Problem solved. No matter whether you legislate or not, people will (rightly) criticize others for saying gg as the opponent shoots at frame ball.

Again no, it has a specific meaning and context as explained before.

The difference between gg and ns is that it increases the pressure. It's like saying "ohhhhh you're so close to a max now" or "if you just pot this one, you win the game" when they're near winning/maxing.
But yes, I consider anything that is said during important shots unsportsmanlike (unless we've been chatting the entire time of course).

How can it add pressure anyway? It's an online game, they're just pixels, fair enough if it's in real life for money, and someone comes up to you when you're on the frame ball saying 'good game, well played' but not on an online game where all you have to do is aim right...no pressure, just you on your butt with a freaking mouse. I really dont get how you can be put off by it.

It doesn't matter whether it's for money or not or whether it's online or not. Have you ever felt pressure in a sunday league football game as you're taking a penalty? In terms of importance in life, it ranks roughly the same as an online snooker frame lol. Neither make any difference unless you're a professional footballer.

It's a matter of sportsmanship. You're playing against real people, whether you see them or not. That's why not showing up to an arranged clan game is just as bad as not showing up to an arranged meeting with friends. People think that because it's online, it means nothing. There's still another real person on the other side that you affect by online actions. That's why you don't say gg while he's shooting at frame ball.

No. Lmfao. Are you for real now!? That bit in bold made me laugh.

At the end of the day, blaming 'gg' for losing a frame is just an excuse. If you don't like it, don't come online. It's simple, nobody can stop someone from doing it.

It may not seem like it, but if you think about it, whether you win or lose a Sunday League game is absolutely irrelevant for your life.

If you don't like it, don't come online. It's simple, nobody can stop someone from doing it.
That doesn't mean it's not bad sportsmanship, which is all I'm saying. And why would that stop people from coming online when you can just stick these people on ignore?

Aside from what people actually understand by "gg", and when it is appropriate for it to be said or not, they remain 2 letters, the same as "ns" etc.

Personally, I feel that if you are not put off by the latter, the former should not disrupt your game / concentration either (as, in most cases, people take time to reply "ty" to "ns", which breaks concentration further, surely?).

Try to remember though, whether good or bad, it is, at the end of the day, still a game.

Not something that as ever bothered me. I normally chat during frames anyway. If anyone ever does say it I normally say gg ul and just carry on.
