Isnt the answer to play attacking safety shots like real snooker professional players do ie open the balls out within leaving one (or an easy one on)? You dont just have to just tap every time because your opponent is.
And back to the spin question Nick's proposal sounds good as long as people accept it may take a bit of trial and error to get a level that works best and suits the majority.

To be honest i initially enjoyed the new arcade spin more, it felt realistic and was more challenging as you had to show more precision with extra pace. However because position is more difficult but potting remains the same, it has reduced the gap between flukey hit and hope play and accurate skillful play. It seems a lot easier now (maybe iv just got worse) to loose to players of a lower rank, and as a result i find that the boring "tapping" style is sometimes the best way of grinding out a victory.
Also the fact that more precision with pace is now needed with new spin i think makes the game even harder for lag sufferers (myself lol). Its so easy to get pace slightly wrong when thers lag floating around and tbh with new spin and lag i cant buy a 50 break. I now rekon spin should revert to old

just to prove point..look at this mornings arcade final-2 safety players so no winner due to out of time! so maybe the rule of a colour ball hitting cushion should apply? also makes matches more interesting!

any way you can make a rule in speed tournies that at least 1 ball should hit a cushion else is a foul break? is boring wen opponants just tap white into pack-no skill involved whatsoever. actually, change boring to frustrating!

I don't like the ball hitting the cushion rule - this is snooker after all not pool.
As Arcadia says, if your playing someone with that tippy tap approach the onus is on you to play the sort of safety that develops the pack of reds without leaving one on.
I think if Nick is seriously considering reverting back to the old spin then he should seek the opinion of more members. Only a very small minority of the sites total users have complained so far and i don't think that should be a basis for changing back.
Don't get me wrong, I much preferred the old spin as it was easy to build big breaks but i'm really happy with the change because its made the game much more competitive. Its taking new users less time to get used to the way the game plays with it being more realistic whilst at the same time its got harder for the more experienced players to finish the frame in one visit.
And i don't agree with the sentiment that there is more reliance on luck now when it comes to break building than there was before - clearly the comment of someone struggling to adapt to the changes! Of course luck always plays a part, as it did before the change, but there is just as much skill required now as there was before and the fact that centuries are still being scored shows it is possible.
Personally I've never been a massive century maker so i'm struggling just as much now as I was before!

am only on about in speed tournies. Otherwise people just keep tapping making players get DQ. why have speed tournies in first place if people are just going to waste time? this way people will have to split pack and make game playable.
I dont know much about real life snooker, but am sure that if time limit applies rules would be made to make sure games get completed?Otherwise what is the point?

But theres no reason to get DQ for time running out due to someone tapping. Either play a safety that frees up the balls or smash the pack. Easy!
p.s. it takes two to tap

i see both points of the argument here.
FIrst of all mels idea could be a good one but it is a pool rule so might not come into this.
and finally tinotoon i agree it takes 2 to tango because i get sick of roll up breaks during tournaments and i get bored so i end up smashing pack.

It's not new it's been here a while now, just gives you a more delicate shot if needed.

tinotoon i did not say there is more onus on luck for break building, in fact the opposite skillful players will find it harder. But for hit and hope players who didn't use spin anyway the game has not changed and so they average breaks have not dropped like most peoples have
i will try the alternate cue control

Come on people not many people have stated their opinions towards Nicks post?
Would you like to see what Nicks said happen or not?
Me personally, i think it's a must!

I haven't read the entire thread (it's far too late for that!) but if the main problem is it's difficult to get sufficient spin power on arcade there's another alternative to it being reverted.
It could still be proportional to shot power (as it is now, and as is it is on real tables) but be increased in power. This would better suit the arcade table yet still remain consistent with reality and other games.

Yes i agree, just have a little more spin at our disposal but still vary with shot power. Would it change for other formats too? I don't really like the idea of it being different for original etc

I can see, from a relative (in paying attention to the finer side) newbie in arcade, how Nick's suggestion would give both new and existing players a middle ground.
However, I suggest it be implemented as a trial, and if we find there are 25+ 107's being hit a day, revert back.
Regarding the break in speed tourney thing - it should be a seperate thread, but I think it can be written off with one simple statement - it takes two to play a game...

If the new new spin is brought in, and 25 maxes are hit, then if it were to be reverted back to the one in place now, then there would be an uproar
