True, everything is much weaker than 20 years ago. But if you "do it back twice as hard or punch him", you'll get sent off too.

Tighter rules today also have to do with money. The big players are an multimillion dollar investment these days. Nobody wants to lose a player who you bought for 50 mil. How much were the players worth 20 years ago? Nothing to break a sweat over- less protection needed in their eyes.
