I just had a player roll up intentionally to a ball without any attempt to hit a colour and in the final of a arcade tournament, i lost 2-1 because of it, no names mentioned, but something should be in place to stop this practice from continuing as it very unsporting to say the least.

Out of interest, what is peoples opinion of potting the white to end a game when only the black is left?

Doesn't make a difference does it? You can't catch up any snookers anyway.

If they pot the black and foul and that could lead to a re-spot but they pot the white instead !!

How about that one ?

It is the same punishment for both grae.

If you pot the white then its a 7 point foul. If you pot the black and the white its still a 7 point foul. There is only a re-spot if there is a 7 point difference in the scores.

i reckon this is exactly the same as the pros (or anyone in a real game) clearing the table to the pink (saya break of 20 or so) to put them well in front, then laying down the cue.

you don't need the balck to win, and your opponent cannot possibly catch up.

game over, no problem

I regularly do it. In fact most of the time I do it unless the black is on its spot in which case I pot a double to the baulk corner.

Just wanted to know if people thought it was unsporting to do so.

i dont tbh, if you cant win/lose then i cant see any harm, i know pros dont do it but we cant put cues down either.

ive even seen a legend on the site pot white after a 50 on arcade if no cent is on which i can't see harm in that either, as its still a half century.

I agree^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Sometimes i think its actually a good thing. Theres nothing worse than having to sit there whilst your opponent clears the table with a 20 or 30 break when they've alerady won and you'd flag if it was your go!!

I always pot the white when the other player can't win, and I do it with as much top on as possible so the noise of the ball slamming in the pocket is louder and annoys them that little bit more.

Annoying your opponent tactically is a part of the game - as long as it's within the rules. Like deliberately playing a slow game against a quick player in order to frustrate and throw him/her off their game. Things like this are as much a part of the tactics of winning as good safety play.

yep good post, ive had opponents slow me down by tapping even in arcade but i just tap with them and let them make the 1st mistake.

it would frustrate me a year ago but it doesn't bother me anymore

I can see I am in a minority here, but I consider this the absolute height of bad sportsmanship and laziness.

so what your saying is if pros put cue down with black left its considered bad sportsmanship?

i try and pot black if no half or cent is on i try a trickshot on black but i still dont see it as bad sportsmanship as if no century or already past 50 break stage why would you need to pot the black?

Ridiculous statement IMO.

No need to pot it so this isnt bad sportsmanship, as dgeneratio said, players in real life will very rarely pot the black at the end of the frame if they dont have to so its not considered as bad sportsmanship.

That's exactly how to play it.... the best player will 75% of the time come through anyway... more on regular and original.
