A 40' sailing yacht is berthed at Southampton with the bow facing land. It reverses out of its berth until it is clear of the jetty and sails completely around the world from west to east and returns to Southampton where it reverses into its original berth with the stern now facing the land. Which part of the yacht has travelled the furthest (if any) and why?

i was trying to work out the volumes of the removed end caps lol.

I would have just used the formula for an end cap .....

.........pi * (h^2)
. V = ----------- * (3r-h)
............... 3

where h= the hight of the cap and r = the radius of the sphere

I got to that in the end haha, but i managed to derive it which im pretty impressed with.

The annoying thing is i worked out that the volume remaining was independent of the original volume and chose an arbitrary diameter to work it out. i chose 10 as that gave radius 5 which left a nice height for the hole (thanks to mr pythagoras)... if i had chosen 0 which of course i could have i would have got the answer haha. idiot adam! *slaps head*

I am the beginning of the end, the end of time and space. I am essential to creation. And I surround every place. What am I?

You could just start off with 86

but seriously ...

Remove the L from LXVIII and you will be left with XVIII

You're too good

What are the only English words with three consecutive repeated letters?
For example, sweet-toothed would be one (ee,tt,oo) if it weren't for the hyphen.

Another..

Rhythmic breathing pushes you forward as the scenery glides past. You have a long ways to go but concentration is on your side. It is the only thing seperating you from the pain in your feet. Freakin new boots, you shoulda left them in the car. You've got other boots but the boots you've got on are too heavy to carry and the scenery is to sparse to hide them. How can you insure that if you leave them you won't lose them?

Hmmm, by 'won't lose them', am I right in thinking that you mean 'won't be stolen'?

If so ...

An initial thought would be to just leave just one of them which would be pointless to steal.

I'm feeling generous, I'll give you that - the real answer was

Put the boots in different places

You were on the right lines

A new one..

Late one evening, a man and his wife were driving their car at speed down a country road. The car spun of the road and hit a tree.
The man decided to seek help at a garage a few miles away.
He made sure nobody was in the car, rolled all the windows up, and locked all of the doors.
When he returned, his wife was dead, and there someone in the car he had never seen before.
No physical damage was done to the car, it was still locked?
How did the woman die?
Where did the stranger come from?

Well I would hazard a guess at blood loss or some other complication of childbirth and the Stork brought him/her - hence the reason for speeding?
