old school / new school whatever, its all the same, and as for comparing on arcade, what a load of old tosh!!!

i mean come on people. really comparing arcade!! the table where even middle of the road player can clear up!!

crazy!!!

this is a game of practice, you more you play the better you get, the less distractions you have ... the better you play

when my mrs is at home with me even if she is sat minding her own business i cant sit here and play my best!!

Also some players just have it!!! the knowledge that is to make a good break and how spin works. Then there is the temperament,

In my opinion any player that knocks in a 147 by doing that has proven they have the skill to beat anyone at anytime if the table opens up for them

Old School!!

New School!!

Whatever, if the player is on form in the right enviroment they will clear the balls and win!!

To be fair its almost impossible to determine whos the best Arcade player on FS, some are better at break building, and some are better at picking people off.

All we can determine is who has the better achievements, but to decide the better player, impossible

Why does there seem to be some myth that you cant compare two players if its over the game of arcade? Because its 'easy' to clear up? It is quite clear that destiny is a better arcade player than me, but because its arcade, we cant actually determine that? Oh right...

No, because over 100 games, you would still be close to destiny, since you can clear an arcade table as well.
There are small marginal differences. You can compare the maxes or the cents. But if you compare how you would fare against each other in arcade games, you'd be almost even.

Jay speaks sense here...

Of course there is comparison. If we use a weaker opponent to Jay and have them face destiny, he is going to wipe the floor with them.

If I can beat some of the best players 60/30 in arcade when im not as good as many others then you can always compare.

Carom is not to desimilar to arcade in the sense that many players break and make a 5+ but you can easily determine who is better. By what shots they play, the knowledge of the table and spin, and shot %. Which is all the gear you need for arcade.

I'll use the best current player v the best all time player.

Adam_147 v Destiny

Now Adam is annoyingly good now (I take half the credit) and beats people easily and at a high percentage. Adam very rarely loses a match with a couple of frames in. I even struggle to beat Adam in frames when we play 10 games.

But he always plays me so there is no pressure. Now I see him in tournament finals and sorry Adam but, he tries to hard and often loses. Thats the temperment that Lee was on about.

So if Adam who destroys everyone and was even 4-0 up on the great Fuzzy the other day, if he was to play Destiny, I am sure Luke would stick his nails in and take a massive bite out of Adam. I know Luke is different gravy at carom but its the best example I had!

Sure it would be close, but I think more often than not in the long matches Luke is going to win. Making him the better player.

So if a player can more often than not beat a player in a race to 100 etc, using Ste_efc v Thewhirlwind... If Ste manages to keep beating him by a "marginal difference" then thats the comparison.

Its confusing because M_wood is referring to centuries and whocares8x8 is all about winning a game at any cost.

My point is, arcade is a fair game where a lot of players are capable of clearing a table...

But this is where true ability comes into play.

You get the guys that instead of taking a safe green to grab a 103, they will make the effort, take the risk essentially to get a 107.

You get the players that will checkside off a cushion, actually notice theres a 3 ball plant to keep position on a black, are able to control the pace of the cue ball better and you just no that they are clearing. Those players are the guys I have mentioned.

The guys you are mentioning -

have less cue ball control
have less vision
guestimate positional shots and cannons

I would also mention that I have played many frames against the so called "new breed" and they always miss. I know they will miss a shot, I can see them going in off on shots, I can tell then they are just about to snooker themselves and in their play a lot more luck is required.

When you play a top player, a proper player, you never expect to get a shot. They dont make the in off mistakes, they dont play it too hard or too soft leaving themselves snookered.

These slight differences are in fact huge. They are the difference.

Seriously whats wrong with 103s

On a serious note tho, if you look back you'll notice im the one who brought up the "dropping standards" debate.

I did so because it simply has dropped.. I was lucky enough to play against the likes of dan, cue, james, bud, curt, conor all when they were at their best and thats how i became the best for a while. If i was to join this game tomorrow and learn from the new-er group of arcade players, i would learn a tap break, learn no safety play or snookers, all of which i picked up from playing players like the above.

The clans i have been in so far have probably had the best arcade line ups the game has ever had in a clan to be fair...
Goodfellas: born2win, 2easy4me, budweiser, carnage, conor.

The Untouchables: James, Cue, Curt, Dan, Jay, lee, Moons, Budweiser, Pirate_steve and myself.

I read somewhere a couple of pages back that flame_sword would smoke all the players that were named in a post, and no offence to cameron hes a sound bloke, but he wouldn't have a hope of smoking anyone of those players named above on their day, not many would.

Can anybody name a time they played anyone of those players and they tapped a break in any discipline?

As far as i know the "new breed" now are players like flame_sword, mr_explosive and thewhirlwind, most of the players iv mentioned are from the "inbetween breed" now but would have to be considered as in the best ever class..

Tried to post this a couple of mins ago, but this should answer lee's identity crisis :P

Loving what nicko has to say. when it got booming a while back it was amazing. every tourney had a challenging schedule, mainly arcade staring at a final showdown with dez pretty much everyday was immense.

I wonder whats happened really when i play now. I dont feel like im playing skilled enough players these days however im losing more than before. but i am older and less bothered abput the result nowadays which much effect my play. because put me in a serious one frame friendly with a buddy ill prob get the cent if it lets me in.

So yea it interests me. lol. now im just rambling on. stuff the old school, stuff the new school ouur super atttacking era was immense lol!!!

The Attitude era!!! lol.

.....................

one serious point. I do elieve mr_explosive is capable as confirming his place in the more legendary brackets. When ive played Sean lately he has stuffed me 98% just clearing the table, He knows and I know thats hes not given away anything in our games.

Now for me to stand and say hes not in a certain class after witnessing his classy stuff for myself would be ignorant so im backing that player anyway.
