Glen Johnson was an absolute star at times. Played them onside for their first goal but made some absolutely crucial tackles when they were needed. Great game, hard to watch at times. Walcott was the edge we needed and I think with Rooney coming in we should be positive.
02:09 Sat 16 Jun 12 (BST) [Link] I don't know... Crouch has a pretty good success rate for England!
Carroll's header was close to a sitter (I'll give him credit because he still had to get some power behind it). But come on, a decent striker must finish it off, which he did.
Yeah Crouch would have had to do one his trademark bicycle kicks and take goal of the tournament. I prefer Carroll's header, much better success rate.

Yeah just popped on Facebook and loads of bitters calling Glen a clown. Hardly. The first goal was just one of those things, happens in a blink of an eye and you just don't expect it to happen. Other than that, like against France he was brilliant. Total myth that he cannot defend. Just in England we wince at the sight of a full back over lapping the winger.
In internationals were space is limited your full backs are vital in getting forward and providing width.
Arbeloa was very impressive doing the same thing against Ireland last night too.

I'd say that was my favourite goal of the tournament so far. Amazing pace and whip on the cross and a big centre forward getting in front of his defender and timing his jump perfectly and executing a bullet header to perfection.
A thing of beauty.
The 3rd goal was very nice too. Welbeck with a great piece of improvisation after great work from Theo... or as Welbeck calls him "Feo".

I was one of the ones cursing Glen but I take it all back now. Sure he makes mistakes but that's nothing that can't be solved through more caps. His tackles in the last third were spot on, some of them keeping us in the game I feel.

He got a 4/10 in The Mirror. Mehh. Journalists are stupid. The cross he put on Terry's head for example. If that goes in he goes up to an 8. That lead to the 2nd goal off the resulting corner, and it was he who got forward and passed to Theo for the 3rd goal. It doesn't look much but goals come from the fullbacks getting forward and supplying.
I get on at Johnson at times, but the stick he's getting of journalists tonight is ridiculous.
He wasn't worse than Milner/Young. Far, far from it!

Before I forget it- Podolski to make his 100th appearance for Germany at the age of 27 on Sunday!

I thought it was a good team performance. All I was worried about at the start of the tournament is how we would respond to going behind. We went 1 up, then plummeted to 1 behind in quick succession. Equalising and then going on to win the game showed great fighting character to me and I know it was only Sweden but you can't take much away from us tonight. Will be interesting to see how the team changes to bring Rooney in.

I think England and our fans and media hacks should just be happy when we win. We need to realise that we are not so much better than Sweden and nowhere close to Germany/Spain.
Getting out the groups is decent for this squad of players, we have nearly done it now!
Can't play for the draw against Ukraine though. We must go for it!

Ah dear, thin ive just about calmed down from watching England..god they put you through it dont they!
Sweden were no where in the first half, England had good possession but again started to sit deep, must be an English thing, one thing I did notice was that sometimes we try to play the neat 1 touch football and 1 touch flicks... instead of putting the foot on the ball and controlling it that way, think the players should do that more coz most of the time the one touch stuff ends up with a loss in possession
England 2-1 down and jeez thought we were doomed, bad defending for both goals, think it was Young on the first goal and Gerrard for the 2nd. Couldnt see a way back in but then Super Roy brings on a super sub and changes the game! Tactics spot on, first with selecting Carroll and then bringing Walcott on!
Fantastic win for England, first win over Sweden in a competitive game so thats a monkey off the back!... Ukraine next on Tuesday on ITV... draw to qualify..... or we could top the Group if we score a few goals! But Ukraine will be going for the win also... looks like if we qualify that it could very well be Spain next....... easy
Well done England

What is happening with Podolski? Been very quiet all tournament!
Also I want to see Marco Reus, he has gone to the Euros hasn't he!? Surely you're going to give him a run out now that you're all but through?
Hope Holland sack Robben off and play Narsingh too. Quality player him. Very similar to Walcott but I think he's going to be more consistent.

Reus is competing with Schuerrle, Goetze, and a few other subs. Tough for any of them to break into the side at the moment. Schuerrle top option at the moment I think.
Hard to say- we haven't gone down 1-0 yet...

4/10? LMAO. What a joke.
Guy Mowbray on BBC gave him a 7 and said this...'
England's best defender on the night. His timing of the vital "recovery tackle" has been vital in both games. Not so long ago some were saying he should be behind Kyle Walker and Micah Richards for the right-back role, and even Roy Hodgson was openly critical of him during his time as Liverpool boss. Two good performances in Ukraine so far though - more of the same please!'
Sounds about right.

Glen Johnson was guilty of playing Mellberg onside for Sweden's equaliser. Then did his best to clear, but the ball went in off him. Had a sloppy night defensively as he was caught out of position, let down by his marking and made a crucial error. A night he will want to forget as he was also exposed on Sweden's second.
Makes me laugh when they say he was caught out of position. They really don't understand his role. Of course he is going to be out of position when we lose the ball, he's overlapping the winger, as has been asked! All it needs is someone to cover. Dani Alves is never 'in position' for Barca for about 85 minutes of the 90, he's not expected to be! He's not a magician who can reappear back at right back when we lose the ball! :\

Russia out! Didnt see that one coming! Greece and the Czechs through to the Quarter Final.. Greece with shambolic performances in the first two games go through with the win over Russia...how Russia will rue missed chances in this game and the Poland game! Feel sorry for Poland, would like to have seen them go through, would of been nice to see a Host nation in the Quarter Final but now they dont see any!
Cant see Czechs or Greece going through to the Semi Finals though... unless Greece repeat a 2004 performance

What a chance for Germany to play against a Greece without Karagounis in the Quarters if we draw tomorrow!
Also, what are you talking about no hosts in the Quarters?? Ukraine to spank England 3-0 and make it through comfortably.

Woops. Looks like Seb is high again.
Portugeuse friend of mine thinks Ronaldo will have a sparkling game tomorrow and ruin the Dutch with 2 goals! Cant see anything other than a Germany win over Denmark which does mean that Ronaldo and go would only need a draw! Holland just have to go for the win and then its the lovely complicated permutations with 3 teams on 3 points lol

Nice prediction mate.
Holland together with Ireland the weakest side on this tourney.
The dutch missing quality in defense for sure. Also in midfield not enough pace.
Many strong teams left; Germany and Spain as expected finalists, with France and Portugal as dark horses.
