Will be tuning into the Portugal v Germany game later. Was planning on going biking but all things are put to one side until July 1st I think.

Denmark deserved their win. D. Agger, Kjaer, Krohn-Dehli and Rommehdahl were beasts. Holland wasteful in front of goal, RVP and Robben and Van der Wiel were dreadful. Schneider showed what a quality player he is though. Holland realy up against it to get out of the group. Must win against Germany now.

Just back from the pub watching Deutschland and Portugal. Dull game, typical Gomez goal, typical Germans as Fergie would say. Not convincing but they have their win, and in poll position to top their group. Pepe really unlucky with his chance that hit the bar and landed on the goal line and out, Ronaldo anonymous mainly.

ROI start their campaign against Croatia tomorrow. They are a very defensive side Ireland, will be interesting to see if they come out of their shells, has to be a Croatia win though. Surely?

Looking forward to seeing Spain defending their crown tomorrow too.

In other news Messi got a hatrick tonight against Brazil. Player.

It's better to have a striker who doesn't stop scoring goals tho than a striker who can't score goals, i bet there fans don't complain about his lucky goals lol..

Messi is unstoppable, 4-3 bet that was a cracking game...no surprise Marcelo getting a straight red..

harharharhar!
Crap game, but looking back at the previous few major tourneys, that's how Portugal play against good teams. They show little to no intent at all- remember the last World Cup? 0-0 against Brazil, 0-0 against Ivory Coast.
We had very few ideas but eventually got the breakthrough. I think we will look a lot better against a side that has a go at us in the Dutch.

As much as holland were wasteful they did deserve at least one penalty the handball decision was a shocker :-)

I honestly dont think that match was so crappy. Its absolutly normal nobody wants to risk too much in the first EC match.

Probably should have been a penalty, but I don't think it's as clear-cut as described on the BBC chat.
His arms are in a normal position when running and he gets hit from about 1 yard away.
Having said that, I think that should still be a penalty. Get rid of the intentional/unintentional distinction!! When the hand touches the ball, play should be stopped- period. Unlucky if it's unintentional.

It touched him twice in the same incident to be honest.

Germany game wasn't fantastic but then again it's two very good teams who both have an immense wealth in talent going forward so you can't expect them to throw too much forward and leave themselves vulnerable to the others attackers?

Disagree with that. You'd have a lot of penalties for stuff defenders can't do anything about.

Not to mention players purposely aiming for the hand!

The only thing I'm not liking about current refereeing is how easy a keeper or a defender can get a free kick in their own box. If a keeper comes out to punch or collect the ball from a cross in he only has to fall over when he realises he is not going to get the ball. Same with a defender, if both players are pulling and tugging shirts almost 100% of the time the defender gets the free kick. If a keeper wants to come for it then that is at there own risk, if they fall over then tough. Same should go for a defender. If it's a clear foul against the keeper or defender then fair enough but most of the time it is just a collision of players.

I fully disagree with Seb's original statement too.
Surely you wouldn't give a free kick in the following case: a player is standing in a wall, protecting various parts of his anatomy, and the ball is kicked straight at him (from 10 yards, with no time to move out of the way). How coud that ever be construed as being intentional ....?
